Casing Mixture moisture after nuke

Well last night I created my first casing mixture and nuked it in the microwave twice for 5 minutes after a stir. After letting it cool (it being warm) and pooring it over my mycelium I began second guessing the moisture content. I had quite a bit of condensation after I nuked it. Though it was sealed and a bit moist I am not sure if it was moist enough after nuking it. Will moisture content for the casing be key? and if it is too low after nuking would it be safe to sprits it a bit? Any input would be awesome, thanks.

You're supposed to mist your casing layer several times per day to replace moisture that is evaporating. RR

And this is while incubating? Wow that completely slipped me on the faqs I have read. Just take off the lid spritz a few times a day? Any reconmendations for a great casing tek? I am using mixture 60/40 coir verm on the casing 101 tek. I thought I was to leave it alone for 3-5 days until mycelium breaks through a bunch and then place into the fruiting chamber. I hope I have this right.

Ok. When you place it in fruiting conditions is when you begin misting. During incubation, you'll keep it covered with foil to restrict gas exchange a bit and block off light. If it's dry, upon spreading over the substrate, spritz it down a bit if needed.
Coir/verm should be 40/60, not the other way around. You want to use more verm than coir. Much better is 50/50 peat-verm. It's also better to pasteurize casing material than the partial sterilization you get from the microwave. Try not to let the material temperature exceed 170F. RR

pasteurize eh! Well I really wanted to do the simple method. I am just worried about contamination and also if it being luke warm could hurt the mycelium.

Luke warm won't harm the mycelium. Pasteurization is a pretty simple method. Depending on where you live, and the ambient contaminant spore load, you might get away with doing things the easy way. As an experiment, I recently sterilized some horse manure and casing mix, and every single tray bloomed with trich either just before or during first flush. I live near a very large rainforest and am an avid backpacker, so I, and the winds constantly bring billions of trich spores into my house. Pasteurization works, but sterilization of substrates and casings in my locale definitely do not work. These were the first projects of mine to get trich in over a year. RR
