I was trying an herbal a/b extraction and accidently added too much lye and brought the PH up too high, should I toss it? I imagine the PH went up to approximatly 11 instead of 9 due to the color variant on the PH strip (it says it only tests up to 9, but it wasn't too much darker than it was supposed to be) I've been going according too plan but the mixture is green, isn't it normally reddish? First time trying an extraction on this particular type of herb and I already feel like an idiot.

O.k. Its a p.viridis extract. I was hoping not to go incriminating anyone. I was just wondering if too much lye would be poisonous, I don't really see how it could effect the process of changing the alkaloids too a salt, but I already have my first draw, but I'm waiting too evap until I know it's at least relatively safe, I heard someone say something about a baking soda wash for too much NAOH, but I really don't know, I've done tons of salvia extracts, but this is my first P.V.

I wanted to check, because ph 11 should be just fine. I'd even call 9 too low. But, let's wait and see what others say.
"I don't really see how it could effect the process of changing the alkaloids too a salt"
What do you mean? Why are you making it into a salt if you've already basified? Huh?

Yeah, I just found another tek I think fits perfectly with my process, I'll just do agood wash. Koala Koolio said "What do you mean? Why are you making it into a salt if you've already basified? Huh?" That's when I added too much lye. You don't use any lye in the extract, I was just saying I did the extract anyway, knowing I added too much lye, and worried what the consequences would be on the final product. Thanx guys.

Oh, wait.
You were supposed to salt it, and you instead basified it to 11? I'm still pretty confused about what tek you might be using. But if you need to salt it at any point in the future, obviously just add extra to compensate for the extra mysterious lye. If you are actually in the more logical basing step (aka nearly done), then just ignore it.
