myc in jar problem
    #5731694 - 06/09/06 06:45 PM (17 years, 7 months ago)

i have a rye grain jar been incubating for about 2 weeks now, and it showed signs of growth after just a few days, but hasn't seemed to show any additional growth since...

Do you think my jar has dried out? is there something I can do to get it wet without contam? i'm incubating in a dark tub, a heating pad under the tub keeps it at 84 degrees all day.

sorry, i just would like to see this jar make it because i'm low on cash and spores.

thanks, liam

2 weeks is a bit long. Was it inoculated with spores or an LC?
Pint/Quart?

You can wait a little longer, but as time goes on there will be a greater chance of contamination.

its a pint jar and i inoculated with spores. there's myc all the way around, but only in about a 2 inch band around the very center.

the rest is uncolonized.

should I take it out, remove the uncolonized areas and dunk/roll the colonized part? or should I just wait.

I think the biggest problem, is i bought this stupid plastic jar from a retail site... it's a rye/verm jar with a polyfil filter, but it only came with one hole on the very center of the top. i might have actually just injected straight down into the substrate... could it be possible that it's just growing from the inside out? and what i'm seeing now is just the tip of the iceburg?
