Fixing scratched cd's?

Just a week ago, I was playing San Andreas, and it said cannot read disc! I was pissed! And just recently, a friend lent me a good Chicane CD and it is also scratched unfortunately. What I was wondering was, is there shops that perform cd fixing services. Or perhaps a product that can fix the scratches. I have heard of such a thing before but it was at a time when the service was of no need to me. I'd really like to get these cd's fixed if possible!

Applying car wax uniformly is said to work.

I've also had some luck using tooth-paste to get rid of fine scratches. Tooth paste is a mild abrasive, so with a little elbow work it can remove FINE scratches on the CD surface.
If the scratches are deep, though, tooth paste won't work at all on them.
You can get CD repair kits from a lot of computer stores around here.

I as well have used toothpaste on dvds, and a few cds, with some improvement. On a rare occasion, the disc would work just like new.

on the audio cd, you could always just use EAC + error correction and then burn to a cd-r. the cheap and easy way to enjoy the music.

as a guitar repairman, i have access to buffing wheels. i found that if you use yellow wax to gt out deep scratches, then a dry wheel to buf out the yellow wax scratches, it will basically take a cd to almost new conditions. i imagine you could do the same thing on a smaller scale if you have a bench mounted double wheel grinder. pull of the grinding wheel and replace with buffing wheels. you can find them at stewmac.com with the waxes i use.

if you're playing san andreas on the pc, you can just get the NO-DVD crack off the web.
