Newbie needs help

Hi, I'm new to this. I got a Mycodome. inoculated 16 jars. Only two with no contaminants. They've been in the dome, with light, 100% humidity, fan them twice a day. 3 weeks. All I have is rough looking "feathers" and about 15 small, tan inch long pins with slightly darker heads. Any suggestions? Please?

I have no idea. I was careful. I believe 6 of the jars were compromised during shipment. Is there a point where you just figure this isn't going to work?

When you say fanning, what exactly is involved? I've been tipping the dome and briefly pushing air with a magazine (30 secs) but I'm sort of cautious about contamination. Really want this to work.

you don't need to fan them...
the mycodome has an air pump.
it's like set it and forget it.
can you post a picture?

I guess I decided to pull the "aborts" and dunk and retry. I hope I did the right thing.

I don't think those are all aborts. They're just immature mushrooms.

Oh crap. I probably acted too early, but it had been 3 weeks, and they weren't getting bigger. Thanks.

the cakes are suppost to be sitting dirrectly on top of the geolite(the rock) the wicking action from the geolite will give more moisture to the cakes.
so I'm thinking your mycodome isn't setup right.
can you take a wide angle shot of your setup?

The cakes are sitting on their lids and the lids are sitting on a perforated plastic "disk" that sits on the geolite. I thought that was how the "instructions" said to do it. I'm sorry, my camera broke, so I can't take another shot. This is tougher than I thought, and I have been reading all I can. I probably "killed" a few pins, but I thought after 3 weeks, the whole thing was going to catch something. And I only had two survivors (cakes.) They looked wonderful when I started. Beautiful, snowy white and "thready," I think that's called something? The threads?

you want your cakes sitting dirrectly on the geolite like this....
take the plastic cover off...
and take the cakes off the lids and put them dirrectly on the geolite.
and you will get this...

Roadkill, I owe you "big time." I dunked the cakes for 12 hours, put them back in, directly on the geolite, and 3 days later, Pin City! And they're different than last time, bigger, growing by the hour, and shiny caps. I'll send pics as soon as my new camera arrives. Yippee!

Roadkill, does this look "normal?" I mean the white "flecks" on the cap?
