Not at all. I never simmer. just soak for 24 to 36 hours.
I also use some verm to act as a moisture buffer. when you dump the wbs into the collander, add some verm until you can pick up a handful and just squeeze a few drops out. this will ensure that your jars will not dry out.

I too never simmer. simmering increases the risk of bursted grain. a short simmer would be good though I guess.
Don't sweat it. verm can be tricky in wbs. I use it sometimes. I find that when I do, the mycelium will colonize the verm faster than the the wbs. Not a bad thing, makes the shake easier in my opinion.
be careful using verm with wbs though, it could surely ruin your water content. If you soak and drain properly, there should be no need for verm.
you'll be alright. good luck.

In recent trials, I've had very little success unless I simmer, which is a bit odd... None of my simmered jars have contaminated, but 90% of my soak-only jars have. Most likely something to do with my seed source or some unknown factor in my methods; who knows.
Many, many people have great success with never simmering, and I'm sure you'll be just fine. Keep us updated!

an easy thing when simmering on a low fire is to just stir every x minutes and keep an eye out for when they start to burst

I found the trick is to only let the WBS drain for about 10min and then add verm. the extra water is absorbed and can be used by the Myc. if need be.

both methods alone, or combined, work fine.
I skip the soak step because im inpatient on things that i can expedite the process of. For instance id rather simmer for a 1/2 hr and then pc then wait 12-24 hrs and then pc.
The key word here is SIMMER, not BOIL. As long as you keep the grains covered with water and only a few streams of bubbles popping up on the surface, you wont have much of a problem. Lately ive dropped my simmering time to 20 minutes with no problems. I never soak, i see the same results when i just simmer and it takes a whole day less of my time.
