EURIKA!! Finally i think i have a large ammount of Australian Subs!
    #5728917 - 06/08/06 11:00 PM (17 years, 7 months ago)

PLEASSEE TELL ME I AM ON THE MONEY!!!!!
ill start off with scenery shots ok

Bordering a large open paddock with small amount of manure scattered around, natural drain off point. Gum tree's and wattles with folage on the ground.

First couple seen.

OK so i picked around 25 shrooms. and i have taken spore prints of 5 just to make sure!!

Larger ones blue bruising stem, light brown top with dark spot in the middle.

Also found theese smaller ones with little fur underneath them, i assume they are younger versions of the larger types.

*********************************************************
Odd ones out \/\/\/\/\/\/\/
They look the same, but not blue?! i have put them aside.

************************************************************
spore test shot, i have put the stem next to them to keep track,
will take it off in a couple hours and photograph results.

FOUND IN GIPPSLAND VICTORIA AUSTRALIA.

Ok, you definitely got some subs in there.

But there are a few suspicious looking ones as well, that may or may not be subs and could potentially be dangerous.

In the meantime wait for bluemeanie and get a sporeprint on any shrooms that look different.

Well done.

Yeah all the ones you got (in the pics) EXCEPT the ones you put aside are defintely subs. The ones you put aside look subbish but its kinda hard to tell from the pics. The caps are a bit strange but the stems and gills seem good, but if theyre not staining blue who knows. Like Ngalyod said get prints of the suspicious ones and maybe try crusing a bit of the stem or cap. In my oppinion theyre all subs, but wait for some replies from the experts.

At this stage I would like to again point out that you should in no circimstance eat a mushroom that you are not 100% SURE about. It seems to me that some people on this board are a little too keen and don't realise that you could actually die if you eat the wrong one. Not you though right:)

Subs don't usually grow in cow manure as far as I'm aware. In a forest setting, I've only found them growing from decaying mulchy wood.

A lot of those do look legit though. Congrats

********************SPORE RESULTS*********************
they all came back black, even though a coule only left faint traces (prob no spores left)

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
This bad boy was one of the "odd ones out" that didnt have any blue in it, but this left the best and most black mark.

Blue stem, black spore print

Biggest one, most def a sub, black spore.

Your not looking for a black print, your looking for a puple/chocolatey brown print. They do look like subs but make sure the print is the same as what i said above, not black.

Psilocybe spore prints are typically meant to be purple/brown. I can see purple in those prints so dont worry.

That's why you don't trust everything you read or are told and only listen to the people who know their shit (I'm not one of them), like bluemeanie and The Notorious to name a couple.

What do you expect man? This is a forum, everybody thinks they are an expert.

The majority of those look like Ps.suaberuginosa - i dont know who said their prints are black because no Psilocybe has black prints. You want purple/brown.
Go with the blue staining - if those stain blue im pretty sure they are subs. The others if found in the same environment will either be subs or a marasmius species = which will have a white spore print. check their spore print but if they grew in the same place chances are they are subs as well.
But go with the blue stainers.

I dont think anyone has said they have a black spore print, it should be  a dark purple with a hint of brown. Someone did post a pic of this somewhere... I'll see if I can dig it up.

I think people here are very cautious, I just got back from a party convincing this guy I gave mushrooms to once not to eat random ones he finds hoping they are active. :foreheadslap:
"Did they go blue?" -
"No, but they were brown and about this big."

hahaha, i meet people like that all the time.

anyway, blind guy - as people have said your on to some winners with all those blue staining ones..... the most usefulthing you could do i think is to spore print some sure fire subs (the ones that stain blue) next to all of those ones that you put aside so you can make a good comparison with the colour of the spore prints....
alot of your spore prints are very weak i think ---- it helps alot to leave them there for alot longer - 5 hours , 10 hours, or even a day. the longer you give them to spore the more the colours will show up and then it will be easier to tell if youve got some bad ones in there.
the colour your looking for is not black but if you leave em there for long enough it is a very dark purple/brown colour.
with such faint spore prints like that its hard to tell.

ive been there too - people arriving at my door at 5am on a tuesday because they are tripping - and suffering from vomiting and diaherra. They had eaten a bunch of subs, Stropharia aurantiaca and a few others.
I told them to go get checked out and they had quite elevated liver enzymes, brownish ruine for days and a feeling of malaise for a while thereafter.
No premanent damage - but being sick and tripping balls must have really sucked... So did the freak out of these people arriving at my house and suggesting i call the police...

I get very weak spore prints quite often. The younger ones that you found and posted in your other thread are generally incredibly weak printerss - many make none at all.

The bigger flatter specimens print super thick - I couldn't believe how dark my prints were compared to younger shrooms. Your new finds seem quite dry so that might also account for a weaker print.

thoes prints are purple, u can see it. ur not looking for an obvious purple print, its more of a purple tinge, and some times a purplish tinge with a rusty tinge to it.
