Pf Tek Cake - Double end casing - Do I need to water the casing ?
    #5728734 - 06/08/06 10:06 PM (17 years, 7 months ago)

Hi,
This is my first grow. I birth 10 cakes in my fruiting chamber. Wet verm at bottom and top, fc at 24c, 16h/day light, 98% humidity and 8 air change per day of 1 minute each. Day 6 after birth and always no pins, I know it's pretty normal. I was wondering if I had to re-hydrate the casing of vermiculite or I don't bother with this ?

Thanks
Wise Gardener

Here some live pics just for you! :P Before being asked, the interior of the fc is covered with an epoxy resign to waterproof it.

you don't really have to do anything...

but a light indirect misting (spray from far back sort of "over" it, so only the fine mist gently lands) once a day is good to keep the tops moist, and you can "feed" the verm on the bottom some water with a syringe or eye dropper if you'd like every other day or so (until the pins start up and get in the way). don't overdo it, keep the verm moist but never soggy! the high humidity from the perlite really takes care of you for the most part.

Double ending is a natural with rolling and is the best. The verm needs to be kept very moist (wet) and RH should be high enough where there is dew on the surface of your cakes, this is where pins proliferate! wise_gardener you went to alot of trouble building the FC which looks very nice but I'm curious why not just use a $5 RubberMaid? Your cakes look nice.
You should have pins soon.

You can just use a syringe for the top and bottom.

Workes well even after the shrooms are big
If the verm dries out just squirt a lil h2o in the verm.
