If you can't solder, it's a pain.
Freedomlives.com is reliable. He's been around for years, and the job he does is pretty fantastic. Not sure if he has premods right now.
I suggest getting a currently-on-the-shelf ps2. They, for once, are being shipped with quality lasers right now. Better than any previous build, so it'll last a bit longer this time. Who knows what you'd get with a premod.
Get a good chip too. Crystal, or an authentic Matrix, or maybe DMS4. There are a couple other good ones, but the majority are crap/clones.

they're usually around 18-20 wires. Depends on which ps2 model you have, it might be real hard, might be easier.

The DMS series of chips are awesome, definetely my top choice. I installed one about a year and a half ago, and it was gravy. A bit of a time-consuming task, but I'm damn good with a soldering iron so it went over well. Just take your time and be careful and it'll be fine. You did it before, right?

If you have a fat, older ps2 that can use a harddrive, definitely get DMS4. The toxicOS lets you run games off the harddrive. Much faster loading, and no dying lasers. Can even send the games over by network from the pc instead of ripping from the disc.
