Beckham vs Ronaldo: Ronaldo was and perhaps still is the better player. he's fat now, but can still turn it on.
Portugal vs Holland: great game, excellent entertainment.
Italy vs Australia: as above, but i wanted the aussies to go through. oh well.
Brazil vs Ghana: man i would love it love it love it for Ghana to win this one ..... and i may put a quick tenner on it if i remember..... but surely Brazil must win this one. England vs Portugal: we're certainly helped by the appalling referee in the Holland game, and should take this one in our stride on our way to the semis. ok, so we're not playing the best, and other teams are showing a lot more class, but it's just three games of 90 minutes left, and every so often we can be brilliant or brilliantly lucky. we're seeded #3 or 4, we've been in ten quarterfinals, and we've got Beckham sending crosses in to a hungry Rooney upfront. last time we met Brazil, we lost 2-1, last time we met Argentina, we won 3-2. We can still win this thing, come on!!!

My only wish for this World Cup is that Italy get absolutely annihilated. I'm not bitter or anything.
Now that Australia is gone, I'm going for Germany.
I still can't believe Ukraine are through. How did this happen? They're awful.

it was clearly a foul. austraila couldn't get a goal, and then they fucked up.

It was a customary Iti dive, i agree. But your defender didn't do himself any favours by lunging in for the challenge, he needed to keep his feet...
1) He should have known better that the attacking player would dive. 2) FIFA have specifically marked out 'lunging' challenges of any kind an immediate offense in this World Cup.
I was gutted though, the Aussies may not have scored but they had the run of them with 11 men, when they became 10 it made that dominance easier to sustain. Very sad that the Roos got conned in the most sickening fashion possible, the very brink of the games 90+3...
That aside, today's games look tasty. Spain vs France i hope gets as hairy as Portugal vs Holland, and im yet to sit down and properly watch Brazil play. So Ole!
Will be watching in the fan mile in Berlin...

the guy did over sell the foul and take a dive, but it was also a foul. the aussie basically just tripped him, and while the italian could have recovered he choose to fall down and cry instead. i guess they should have both been penalized if you get right down to it.

The streets of Germany are deserted, save the ragged and emaciated children that wander about with a threadbare ball at their feet and confusion on their grimy little faces...

woulda been nice for a matchup like ger-arg to be saved till the semis at least.
i guess its silly to complain about how the bracket works out though.

Beckham vs. Ronaldo
Beckham isnt even close. He's like, the third best player on his team.

did you hear that Michael Jackson was supposed to have been dating Becks' wife (posh spice) and that they were seen out together?
apparently Jacko denied it - said he'd been in Brooklyn at the time.
i jest. ok, so Ronaldo is obviously better than Beckham, but Becks is better looking. everyone in England knows Becks' opinions, as we are forcefed them by the gutter press, TV and radio pretty much 24/7 around the world cup period. the papers here are on about the english WAGS (wives and girlfriends) and who is the bitchiest etc etc ..... it's sex for dinner, footy for breakfast in the UK

no mentions of the excellent spain-france game? that was some fine soccer there. and contrarily to what we've been seeing in this world cup, the refs did a pretty good job this time.
can't wait for brazil-france next saturday. its gonna bring back some old memories from 1998!
anyways, this world cup is intense. i'm lovin it
