Melatonin addiction?
    #5727345 - 06/08/06 03:52 PM (17 years, 7 months ago)

Is it bad for me to be taking these things every other day? I am a little stressed because I just realized that my sleep doesnt come naturally anymore, it is always induced.

i generally will only take them if i am keen on experimentation

or if i need to change my sleep schedule such as i have been sleeping from 11 p.m. - 1 p.m. and all sorts of lazy things like that.

and i'll be getting up real early for working and yoga next week so i took 5 melatonins (300ug each) last night and somehow woke up at 6 a.m...... which is fine by me I didn't want to get up but I did because I wasn't sleepy it will be a good adjustment.
[actually i was tricked into leaving a kind of lucid dream.... i was wanting to scout out a girlfriend but didn't think it prudent to stare at people that were at this sort of "drug rehab sleepover" which didn't make much sense, ecept they were saying psychedelics are okay but never touch meth and things like that..... and so i was wanting to leave and get a better vantage on girls while being anonymous... so someone had us all raise hands of whoever wanted to leave and as soon as I raised mine I woke up]

and i will keep doing that until I feel naturally sleepy at normal times and get up around 6 naturally.

probably about 3 days in a row ought to do. no more than that.

I was dependent upon them for a while too, I am from England you see where they are illegal. I lost the ability to sleep for a while following a bad trip and it drove me nuts. I went on a student exchange to the US and bought a shit load of them and popped one (or two) every night for months. I realised it was a bad thing when I felt sorta dreamy all the time. I started taking half a day and maybe one every two days, swapping them for a good magnesium supplement and an occasional valerian root tablet. Just look into relaxing herbs and supplements. I have a book somewhere on supplements ill dig it out by tommorow. I do not think they can be a good thing to be taking long term, screwing with hormones just sounds like a bad idea.

strange that they are illegal..... i wonder why (and why they are legal in the US?)

i agree it's not good to mess with hormones for a long period of time.

i am taking it now, 1/2 to 1/4 of a 3mg pill, it helps me really to start sleeping, and to have deeper sleep.

w/o it it takes me to get sleeping about 1h - 1,5h, now with melatonin it takes 30mins.

i would not take it normally but after my psychosis, i have a really fckd up sleep, and this helps me to get similar sleep which i was used to have before. dont know if its addictive, but i think its a lesser evil than risperdal i am currently taking also.

Do you know how Melatonin, is made in your brain?
Do you not think, that production may stall, if you take it externally?

I guess the Doctor warned you of this?

Well the long term effect of them has not been studied. Also your supplement lobby is a lot stronger in the US, ours gets kicked around a lot by whatever 'safety legislation' the drug companies decide to put on the table.
