I just got the special collector's edition of Saving Private Ryan.
I was on the edge of my seat as the battles took place and I was almost bawling my eyes out during the cemetery scene at the end.
Great movie.

Remember when they met up with Ryan and they saved his privates while that one dude got sodomized by a gun?

I thought Saving Private Ryan was pretty terrible, a great example of Steven Spielberg at his worst - honing his cinematographic talents to the max while wasting them on an overly sentimental and preachy plot. Compared to The Thin Red Line, a movie that came out the same year and also vied for Best Picture in the oscars (and lost to Saving Private Ryan) it's really really weak.

Actually Spielberg can thank Janusz Kaminski for the cinematography. The man is a genius.
And OMR, , to mentioning The Thin Red Line. One of the best movies I've ever seen.
Have you seen The New World? Same director.

It's a good movie and all, but it is really unrealistic. Tom Hanks and some of the other guys were way to old to be rushing the beach. Most guys doing that stuff were about 18-20.

Happy birthday Schlomo.
P.S. I just started "A Prayer for Owen Meany" today. I'm finally gonna get around to reading it.

Thanks man, and cool, good to hear. I truly love that book.
I'm not quite ready to tackle the Brothers Karamazov though.
