a large grey patch is not indicitive of wet spot. the liquid could be metabolytes.
a picture would prove it for sure.
to prevent wet spot, pc for the full amount of time. do not incubate over 80-82 degrees. make sure your jars aren't too wet to begin with.
always practice sterile inoculation.
from your description, I am guessing mold. in that case it surely came from inoculation, not a pc'ing problem.

Are you sure what you are calling grey is not just early mycelial growth? It will tend to look that way at first, very wispy and transluscent. The water drops are undoubtedly condensation, which is normal as the jar colonizes. Wet spot is really nasty, smelly, and usually obvious. GL.

Mushroom mycelium is not grey, so if you have both grey and white growths in your jars, they are contaminated. Molds are introduced at inoculation, or by improper filters on the jars. RR

I've been having the same problem using millet, I've considered it may be my liquid cultures that are contaminated, but I think it's bacillus. For the first couple days the growth looks white and healthy, then almost instantly grey overtakes the jar. I've soaked a full 24 hours and 36 hours, and pressure cooked for a full hour at 15psi with no success yet. For the reason I stated above I think my cultures are clean, I clean/flame sterilise my needle before each injection, is it possible that because I've had multiple contaminated jars in my room there is a large amount of bacteria in that area going directly to the jars? I'm thinking of finding a different area to incubate, and pressure cooking longer, that's all I can think to do.
My next batch I'll do one jar with spores instead of liquid culture, just to make sure it's not my lc, god damn that would piss me off

bacillus is not grey.
mold is.
mold comes from inoculation or poor contam filtration.
either the LC or the inoculation.
look to see where the mold starts from. If it is from the inoculation sites, bad LC. from the top of the jar, bad filtering.
either way it is not your pc.
just make a new LC. They are easy.
I'm guessing it's your inoculation. a flame on the needle is not all that is needed. as soon as that needle cools in open air it is contamed. keep the needle wrapped in an alcohol soaked something always.
never let the needle touch open air, ever.

Actually, I just use the needle red hot. The first few drops of solution cools it off, and the rest flows uncontaminated.
I suspect the problem is your lc if you made it without first running the mycelium across agar to check for contamination. Molds grow very well in an LC solution, often look white at first, then turn grey. RR
