Vibration Question for Experienced Growers
    #572574 - 03/07/02 02:24 PM (21 years, 8 months ago)

A few months back I tripped alone in my bedroom with my sound system full blast for about 6 hours. I have a Henry Von Kloss (I think that's the name) woofer thing and I don't know what else - I can only tell it kicked ass and would vibrate my whole bedroom (in my concrete filled, block house) when maxed out. Immediately after coming down, I noticed that my mushrooms (kept in my bedroom) had grown a ridiculous amount for 6 hours.
I wanted to recreate the experience and tried it a couple weeks later. Unfortunately, I blew the transformer in my woofer thing, and don't have another way to shake my room until I get off my ass and have the transformer replaced.
A couple of days ago, I noticed a thread where a Hydrapod user talked about hiding the pod under a desk and worrying his parent would hear the pod vibrating.
I've seen Hydrapod logs that were pretty damned impressive, so now I'm wondering about vibrations again. Has anyone out there experimented with vibrating their terrariums in any way? I just put a back massager up against one of my terrariums about an hour ago, but I don't guess that's really the same as vibrating the whole environment around the terrarium, as I'm now assuming the hydrapod does.
Any input on the theory that vibration may stimulate mushroom growth?

You may want to do some research on a subject called "psychoacoustics"

Its the study of sound on the mind. But it brances off into other areas too. For years plant researchers have played loud music for plants. Supposedly most plants like classical:)

Its an old subject but people have been experimenting with sound and biological material for awhile. I hope you get your equipment fixed! If anything new comes up post it.

So perhaps it's the sound, rather than the vibration, huh? I've had the vibrator up against my terrarium for about 3 hours now, and I haven't seen anything amazing. The casing that is fruiting does show definite change in that period, though. My tallest mushroom was leaning to one side, going towards the light. I flipped the box around right before I put the vibrator against the box, and I can see a very definite difference in the direction of the shroom's growth. The top 1.5 inch is now pointing straight up. As a matter of fact, all the shrooms on that casing have straightened. Would 3 hours be a reasonable amount of time to see a very definite change in direction, or does that sound faster than normal?
Crap, wish I would have measured the big one before I started. It's hard to notice a difference in height when you've looked at the box about 100 times in 3 hours.

i've read something about shrooms liking a certain frequency, maybe 50Khz

sounds are vibrations, so it's basically the same thing.
Also, baroque (sp?) music in particular seems to be favored over other types of music for the plant researchers. It also increases theta waves in the human brain, interesting synchronicity there.

Shrooms can straighten a good bit in a very short period of time. It depends on if they've been getting more intense or more direct light mostly. If not, then I'd say you've got an obvious improvement.

Who has a program that can produce the desired frequency?
For that matter, who wants to burn it as an mp3? Just a few seconds, and it could be looped. It would be very easy to mix into the background of anykind of music, but especially baroque (sp?, again)

PM me with any cultivation questions.

I just looked at my profile and realized I had a website at one point in time on geocities, it's not there anymore and I have no idea what I had on it. Anybody remember my website from several years aga? PM if so please.

Yes snd is vibration, you ear drums are just really sensative touch sensors. I've been playng music for my mushrooms since da one, I believe it help them colonize quicker too, the vibrations allow the mycelium to dig through the substrait easier. i think, they like trance fusion mostly, and jazz

I just generated a tone that goes from 4khz to 6khz to 4khz again its 5 sec long and about 75kb in size, unfortunately i can't upload it to the shroomery server

http://www.learner.org/jnorth/tm/spring/PicturingSound.html
is where youll find the tones
i took the lowest 5000hz one and ran it through little drummerboy http://www.master-zap.com/ldb/
witch is a cheap version of a mod tracker but its easy to use and opend a simple house riff and threw the tone behind it
you can hear the tone if you listen carefully

and the tone is low enough you could just havea speeker inside the terrarium with no riff or anything infront of it and it would just sound like a fan running inside your computer

just a thought

any idea how feasible it would be to construct a pizo buzzer style 5khz tone gen that simply got plugged into a dc source?

I don't understand most of what you guys are saying, but I did want to add that the casing I vibrated twice, at 3 hour intervals (while fruiting) gave me my biggest mushie so far - 25.5 grams wet. I know that's not a lot, but it's much bigger than I've gotten before. Maybe just coincidence, but I got over 45 grams wet off a 1 cake casing, and they seemed to grow really fast. I do think there is something to it, would love to hear more ideas, and possibly some type of vibration/sound tek easy enough for the mechanically challenged. Running a cord to my vibrator across the room isn't the most stealth idea I've ever had.
As soon as something else begins to fruit, I'm going to try it again, with the vibrator on a higher setting to see if I notice a difference.
