found these in my front yard where a series of dead stumps and pine needles are at... I believe them to be one of the inedible amanita species.. say destroying angel...?
I do realize I need to buy a guide book about mushrooms and their identity and am working on getting one...
any assistance is appreciated.

Well as long as you know NOT TO EAT THEM, -just thought I'd make sure.
Perhaps you have Amanita Pantherina, (the ones with spots on the caps), and the ones on the left are different I think maybe be inky caps of some description?

I thought pantherinas may be a possibility... but I didn't figure my front yard would be cool enough to have pantherinas naturally grow in it...

You're right about the genus, but there's no good chance of identifying those from those photos.
One of the biggest things when IDing Amanitas is the base of the stem. Try to get one where you *carefully* dig up the entire base of the stem, being very careful to not damage any of the fragile tissue that might be around the base of the stem.
Another thing to check for is a a partial veil. In particular look for some very young specimens and check to see if they have a partial veil.
Happy mushrooming!

assuming that the small mushrooms in the photo are the same as the large ones, which I believe to be true... no appearance of any veil whatsoever is observed.

What kind of live trees are growing near where these are coming up? Amanitas are mycorrhizal, so they will associate with live trees.
A species I/m personally familiar with that those resemble closely is Amanita populiphila, which grows under cottonwood trees, as the name indicates (cottonwoods are in the genus Populus). That particular species is edible, but we don't know enough about your specimens to guess that, so they should not be eaten. Unless we can verify an ID with a microscope I wouldn't suggest that they be eaten.
Happy mushrooming!

there are lots of pine trees and one tree that is unknown to me near them... they're growing right next to a stump of one of the unknown trees.
