Hay / Staw. Whats the difference?
    #5722652 - 06/07/06 12:09 PM (17 years, 7 months ago)

I haven't posted in a while because there isn't much that can't be figured out by searching or reading teks. However, here is something I couldn't find: Does a difference exist between hay and straw, or are they one and the same?

Also, what kind of hay/straw is best for our purposes. I have found a little on this but want to hear some other opinions.

are you sure it lacks nutrients. if you are using horse poo you would essencially be fruiting off of hay with LESS nutrients since the horse stole some. however maybe its just the consistancy that is buggered.

thats my thoughts... ahha

Hay has more nutes than straw. Its the texture of the straw that makes it better.

HAY......OFTEN has lots of grass seeds in it.
Those seeds harbor mold spores, that will contaminate a grow.
Unless the hay is sterilized, or composted. Don't use it.
Stick with WHEAT STRAW. Which has NO SEEDS IN IT.

Hay has more nitogen in it.
Wheat straw is the best straw.

If useing horse poo, as I do, It doesn't matter which the horse ate. Its been through the factory.
