Is this Cobweb Mold?
    #5721987 - 06/07/06 05:08 AM (17 years, 9 months ago)

Hey folks, first-time poster and newbie grower with a possible mold problem.

I'm growing Mexicans using a pre-prepared pack. I'm using a different method to what I've seen here, a bit of a bastardization of what the guy in the grow shop recommended and other techniques. I have a large plastic tub with 2.5-3 inches of water in it and a submerged fish tank heater set at 26.5º Celsius (about 80º F). The cake is raised out of the water and I put a drip shield over it. The humidity is steady, always between 90º and 95º, and I open the chamber and fan it daily. I was doing it 3 or four times daily but I got mycelium on the caps so I cut down to just once.

I mention it because it's worked ok so far, but now I've got almost-white fluff all over the stipes of the 2nd flush, and with a bit of dull grey mold on the cake itself. Is this cobweb mold? The (excellent) FAQ mentions too-high humidity as a cause of cobweb mold, but I was under the impression that 90-95º was the desired range.

If it is cobweb mold, does this mean that the whole crop is a write-off? The first flush had something similar on it - not "hairy", but a soft white coat on the stipes nonetheless. There was pretty strong nausea, but this was controllable by drinking tea with ginger. Is cobweb mold poisonous?

Mildly anxious,

Lumpy

oh and the nausea is created by the shrooms. i think i overheard the mr  roger rabbit saying it wasn't harmful at all. but you might let him chime in on that. in my experience eat away :mushroom2:

that fuzz is not cobweb mold.
it is mycelium growing on the stipes due to high humidity.

harmless.

the mold you say you have is not good though.
mold sporulates greatly and spreads fast.

could infect your whole setup.
be careful with mold.
first sign, toss it out.

Wtf? This is 9 years old. Try making your own thread. It says post on top of the contamination forum. Also no it isn't cobweb. It's most likely healthy mycelium.

It's all healthy mycelium. Damn you for resurrecting an old thread!  :yogabunny:

is there any contam so similar to mycelium?fuzzy and not really white at first but when fully colonized jars turned white like snow and compact in 6 days.
inoculated jars from a wild mushroom spore print of Uruguay.
im asking because it is different to any other mycelium.

Try taking a clearer pic of the bottom of the jar. That mycelium looks bacterial tho.

How so? He didn't even say what species. If it was cubes it's toast, but lots of other mushroom species mycelium can be similar.

Here's 2 different healthy panaeolus species healthy mycelium:

@psilo again it can be bacterial. Definitely is if it's cubensis, but other species can actually make it look like that. It'd be better if he said it wasn't some wild mushroom. Even scarier he said he inoculated with wild spores. I sure hope he cleaned up on agar first.

It's probably going to be fine, but it's looking bacterial right now.
