Poppy season!
    #572156 -

well, i liv ein the wonderful state of michigan, and i was curious as the the timing of poppy seed plantings...got some real damned opium poppy seeds (dont ask, natural source) and twas curious as to the best time to plant. Was anticipating in the next few weeks, depending on our wacky Michiganian weather, but could use some info on exact temps and sunlight restrictions. Thanks for any info, and stay frosty.

I believe that they can even be planted(seed) in the fall before everything freezes over...then they will come up in spring.....so you can either plant them as soon as the ground is no longer frozen or start them inside and plant them when the warmer wheather is here to stay...... hope this helps

I also live in Michigan, and damn is this some fucked up weather we are having. I was also planning on planting some poppy seeds as soon as the weather improves. Just make sure that there is no threat of frost once you have planted them, and poppies generally like sun and fertile, well-drained soil.

I'm a Michiganer too.The seeds could be thrown outside now if you want..But I would wait a few weeks and start them inside in peat pots, then transplant, pot and all. I grew last year also.
