I hear patching wasn't really worth it. but if i do. how much more casing should i use? or just over the areas of growth?

I see patching as beneficial.
you want your casing layer as evenly colonized as possible. for a better pinset.
personally with a sterile instrument (alcohol cleaned spoon) I just lightly move the casing around a bit to cover the mycelium and to thin out the uncolonized part a bit.
after a while, you'll get the hang of this. I guess you could just add some more casing material over the mycelium though, but I have never done that.
think even colonization. then follow hyphae's pinning strategy.

patch casing is what makes a pinset. i wouldn't suggest moving the casing layer around....just add more on the spots that have came threw so the rest can catch up. after patch casing wait two days then fruit.
p.s i would do this like tommorrow

It is quite possible adding more is better than moving around.
I'll do some side by sides when I get back.
I have a feeling that adding might be better. I'll find out then I guess. unless of course anyone else has done side by sides?

I know this helps so much;
but I saw a post a while ago that related to this later in detail..I don't remember where though-anyways they had done a side by side and posted that adding was better.
