Unchanging blue dots with lots of pins. Contam?
    #572049 - 03/06/02 11:33 PM (22 years, 9 months ago)

I have a PR cake still in its jar, there are a couple of patches of blue dots that have been there for several days and havn't changed at all. I opened the jar and it didn't smell bad, I didn't smell anything. Today about 11 pins developed on the cake. Could these dots be contamination?
Thanks

They could be or it could be bruising or they cakes could be drying out...without a picture its hard to say...I'd birth it and let em pin but separate from your other cakes...if it is a contam you dont want it to spread it around like herpes in a frat house.

mycellium; liek any living organism has only so buch 'energy.' when contamination sets in; the myc must fight the contam off or it will keep growing so it directs more effort or energy to fighting rather than fruiting; so if youve had those dots there a few days and 11 pins formed while they were stil there chances are that its not a contam and your cake is healthy. never assume though; really noone can say for sure without at least a pic of it.
