dumb noob lc question.

Yeah, this might be dumb... Ok, I am on my 2nd lc attempt using GT and honey. The 1st time I tried to use a print and appearently I got a little carried away when adding spores Anyways, it has been 2 days since I knocked up the current jar and there are very tiny little white things floating around. They are so small you gotta hold it up to the light. My 1st question is, Can I get away with swirling the jar twice a day? Second of all, My jar was always clear, should I be able to see the honey? Thanks for your help.

Swirling twice a day works fine.
Just do something in the range of 4cc honey to 96cc water and don't worry if you can see the honey.

So I've also got an lc question:
30 May -- I made four jars of 100ml water with 1tbs karo in each. Added ~1cc of spore syringe into each. I have been swirling everyday since then, keeping the jars in my bin at 85F and have yet to see anything in any of the jars.
Have I totally messed something up, or is there some reason why it would just be progressing incredibly slowly?
I did take precautions to make sure the jars were cooled before I innoc'd.

is that 1 teaspoon or 1 table spoon to 100 ml water? should be 1 teaspoon to 100 ml water. and sometimes they take alittle bit to get going. I know one member on here that is was almost 2 weeks before he saw anything in his LC

I used one tablespoon per 100ml. Not sure why the hell I did that (heh)
I guess I'll leave the jars to see if anything comes of it after some more time.
Thanks much though.

from everything I have read on LC. it is better to have to little than to much. You might get luckt and it will still work, I have seen and heard stranger things with this type of growing. GL

The strain I used in my LC was Tasmanian... I also have syringes of Cambodian and Australian. Quite excited about the Cams.
I've been intending to start another set of pf-style cakes because my own recipe experiment is proving to be far too acidic. [totally forgot to buffer it, then followed through with a retarded idea to add calcium carbonate] Will let everything sit, since I've definetly got the room.

What happens if you add too much spores to a LC?

So I checked my LC jars today, and one of them has bits floating around in it! I'm pleased that I'm at least getting something out of my mistake.

I have noticed my LCs made using honey often exhibit these little bits of floating debris. It is hard to determine if this is actual mycelium or a property unique to honey as I have never encountered this problem using Karo. I have also observed what seems to be a corollary between this floating debris and sterilization time… perhaps this is part of the caramelizing process. Usually when dealing with honey I was happy with a 50% success rate or worse. With Karo it has been more like 95-98% success rate. I usually sterilize the jars with pure water, no Karo added, remove the jars and as soon as they are cool enough to handle, but still extremely hot, quickly add the Karo… just eyeballed it to approximately 5%. This method has worked very well, no contamination issues, very high germination rate, and no problems with caramelizing. I must admit I like the idea of using honey better… seems so much more romantic and esoteric. (always add a little gris gris to your casing for extra kick) but yeah… cheese ball corn syrup is all I use now. cheers georgem

Have you actually tried this and noticed much of an effect? Sounds kind of interesting, but I'm not sure how it'd help the spores germinate more quickly.
What do you use Karo for in the US? We don't have it in the EU, we just get sugar and cornflour separately.
