AHH! Fireworks

Shit. My friends call us outside to watch them shoot some fireworks.
So I go out with two friends, all watching from another side of a fence. The three other people all light their fireworks (big bottle rockets) and huck them over the fence at us!
fuck I've never ran faster than that.
My other two friends went diving for cover and I was at least 40 feet away before they shot off.
funny thing is two went straight for my friends and bounced off the big tube they were hiding behind
But it sure was fun, anyone else got any good stories about fireworks? I'm sure there's some good childhood memories there

It is never NOT fun to have fireworks thrown at you, unless you get hurt.
I used to have a cool neighbor when I was a kid. He was a very young-at-heart kind of guy. He always had fireworks. Usually cherry bombs, some m-80's, and LOTS of black cats, your standard small noisemaker firecracker, the kind that come in strings and can be pulled off the string.
Anyhow, we used to split up a bunch of the black cats and toss them at each other across the hedge that separates our driveways. It was always really fun dodging little firecrackers. They really couldn't hurt anyone unless they exploded very close to your face, so it was also pretty safe.
He let me have an M-80 once. I took it and set it off on the porch of one old woman who was always being a pain in the ass, such as calling the police when me and my friends had a water balloon fight and one balloon missed and harmlessly popped on her house. Nasty old codger

I had a Black Cat blow up in my lap once. I was riding in the passenger seat of my friends truck as we pulled into Wofford College to visit another friend. Of course, as soon as we enter the gate I light a firework, and attempt to throw it out the only half way rolled down window....
I fail, and twelve little flashes go off in my lap, scaring the bejesus out of me because I thought I just blew my dick off. Luckily my junk was ok, but my startled friend driver screached to a halt infront of a group of perspective students as smoke and flashes billow out of the window.

One Halloween a buddy and I flattened a bunch of screechers and wrapped them in electrical tape, creating some pretty potent little bombs. Needless to say we proceeded to get drunk and I lit one without throwing it in time. Damn near blew my fingers off, I got lucky on that one

script said: Me and my girl went to watch the big firework show on July 4 a few years ago, from previous years I knew of a hole in a fence that gained you closer (restricted) access to the firing area, id say at most we were 20 yards away.
Any way the show started and it was amazing, we would lye down and were so close that a big mortar would completely fill our peripheral vision with sparkling beauty. Then out of fucking no ware a mortar exploded in its cannon. We were both just paralyzed with fear when we felt the concussion and watched the fireballs come down toward us, I swear I have never run faster in my life but I might as well have been walking, we were running with pumpkin size twinkling fireballs hitting the dirt all around us, when I saw how far ahead they were touching down I knew their was no out running it, their wasn’t really any direction to run that was a better option than any other so we ran around like two chickens with their heads cut off trying to avoid getting hit. Any way it was only one mortar and it was over relatively quickly in hind sight, at the time however it seemed like an eternity.
It shook us up pretty good, we left the show and I haven’t been back to another since. Serves me right I guess, they put up barriers for a reason.
It's a good idea to stay away from big mortars. Those mortar tubes are designed to be easily deformed/destroyed in the event of a preignition. That means they let the explosion out of them easily. That's good for the operators, because no shrapnel is created (shrapnel could travel far enough to hurt them) but it's very bad indeed for anyone near the tubes. Being maimed by fireworks is not fun.
