I thought the weather was far too hot lately for Pans in the grass, but I went for a stroll down my block this morning- seems the only one not tolerating the weather is me! I found a mixed group of foes and subbs! The ID is clear with the prints this time

Eris, you were right!!! Remember what you said in a previous post regarding the abundance of Coprinus? I was curious to note which species would start popping up like those ink caps, and I am glad this time there are some actives in the genus!
CureCat “Oh god, another coprinus. Maybe we should put a permanent bulletin up top the board about coprinus, Hahahaha. It's gotta be waht, like 30% ID requests are coprinus?? Maybe more?”
Eris Re: “This is the time of year where lots of people post coprinus finds... I've been reading this forum for many seasons. The coprinus finds usually die down more as late summer/fall arrives. Then there are other species that get posted 100s of times.”

I would like to see better pictures of them.
A black spore print only comfirms that it is a type of Panaeolus. Are you 100% positive they are subbalteatus?
..Unless you already ate some..?

Woah, I totally missed all these replies!! Yeeeah.... I use my phone : : soooorry, I will learn to use the digi one of these days. I've looked at some more Psathyrella photos and have decided that I have found none. The stems of all of these do not split quite like Psath species, and also, they are a brownish red hue on the black print ones, the brown ones usually have lighter coloured stems. As far as not growing in grass, so many people have been finding lawn Pans lately, so I am not so concerned that these are uncharacteristic in their habitat. ShroominDole, I have not eaten them, but as they look just like the ones that i first found with the blueing, I planned on it. Those blueish ones were alos found in grass. Would you still discourage trying these pans??

Pans do get posted a lot in the summer, as Coprinus does in the spring... when fall comes around is when things get interesting. We get a steady flow of Cortinarius, Inocybe, Galerina, Armillaria, and other fall mushrooms. A lot of the poisonous mushrooms that grow in the woods come out in the fall. The Panaeolus posts will die down also in time.
As far as those mushrooms in your pictures go, it's hard to be sure what they are. I don't see the point of eating random Panaeolus species. They can cause serious runs (the shits). Unless you are positive they are subbs there is probably no point.
