there is still an underground. you just need to look in the right places. the underground, the true underground will never surface. maybe you are in trendy denial. wake up.

The underground scenes that start to pull any kind of profit making potential will eventually be commercialized. It sucks but its a fact of life. The underground just reinvents itself as time goes on to compensate for this.

Why not just form your own underground? Why is it necessary to succumb to subculture? All the great underground movements, such as punk, where started by people who came up with their own ways of doing things and living. Other people just noticed that these people had good ideas and decided to follow them. You don't really need to follow anyone, take shrooms, they'll let you understand this.

Maybe it's a good thing? It clears up the space and makes way for new talent. This way the undergound, any underground, evolves.

the underground its self is trendy, and your an idiot, nobody thinks Blink 182 is punk rock And if you get your music from MTV, or the radio, you wll be angry and think "why are there so-many sucky bandand only a few good ones" If you get your music from lives shows found on jambase.com or else where, you will be happy

okay, the underground is rejection of normality. Certain bands that you mention are 'underground' but shit, they are not real, they are normalised underground. The good old yanks r trying to make everything taxable and profitable, who would blame them after 9/11? (except me, but thats a different story). I listen to bands like the ozric tentacles a UK underground space rock band, the underground will never die - it will never become trendy, because as soon as the mainstreem has caught up, the underground has moved on, we are always one step ahead. The only way to fully experience the underground scene is to tour your local pubs and clubs who support the indy scene, you will never find a decent and original band on tv, they are all the fuking same - s club 7 or slipknot they are all comercial soft bullshit! support your local bands !!

The way I look at it, unless you're the very first punk rocker ever, you can't criticize someone else for getting into it after you did, because you got into it after someone else and so on. A lot of people think that the group that they belong to should cease to grow once they find out about it. I will say that Blink 182 are not only not punk rockers, they are the physical embodiment of the death of punk rock. My parents would probably like that shit.

The original "punk" scene which started in New York underground clubs in the 70's did NOT have a particular sound. The whole idea of punk rock was to do whatever you wanted to do (musically speaking). Some of the originals were Blondie, Talking Heads, New York Dolls and the Ramones. The sound and idea which many people today recognize as "Punk Rock" was started when a British anarchist, Malcom McClaren (sp?) liked what was happening and commercially packaged The Sex Pistols. Real punks say, "Fuck you, we do what we want" and ignore trends. If others follow, well they're just not punk...
