Dolmio 575g jars, too big?

I am planning on using dolmio jars (575g) with BRF, I'm worried that they may be too big. I also want to use the polyfill tek, is polyfill just aquarium filter wool? The strain I am using is TC. Anyone have any answers?

First of all how would anyone know how big 575 grams would be? I dont get if you mean the weight or what...how big are they in inches or cm... Polyfill is the stuff you can buy at the hardware store. you can also use cotton balls. Just helps keep the conams outta there of course. Depending on the size, brf will be fine, just that you have to make sure the cakes will be able to come out. If your going to case, it wont really matter as you will crumble them anyays.

Thanks angryshrooms, I guess I was kinda expecting some people to know what I'm talking about when I say Dolmio, you know, as in the pasta sauce. I'm not sure if it is very popular outside of Australia. Anyway I figure that they are about equivalent to 1 pint and after some searching I have found that most people say "size doesn't matter." The jars are lipped but I think I will case so it doesn't matter. As far as the polyfill is concerned, I really just wanted to know if aquarium filter wool would be ok. If you reckon that cotton wool will work then I guess filter wool will be fine. I hope is fares ok in the PC.

I dont know - i think its pretty fucking easy to work out how large a container is by grams... Larger jars will obviously take longer to colonise and this give contams and the chance of drying substrate a bigger chance. My fav. jars are now vegemite jars - they work great and as they have plastic lids they dont rust

>I?d rather take aluminium foil... Why? I've been using plastic lids w/ polyfill in the autoclave and they work the very best! Actually I prefer them because they don't rust like metal lids.

i dont know much about dolmino sauce jars but he may be saying use foil because ball plastic lids may not fit on these jars. foil is pretty damn cheap and easy also though.

Hi Mushy .... I thought that polyfill was that synthetic filling that those white cushion refills are made out of, like you get at Mansours or something??? This should be cheaper than aquarium wool; about $5 for a small cushion........:) Like bm said, the larger jars will just take longer and be more contam-prone because of this......... & that's a novel use for Vegemite jars bm, how patriotic hehe!
