Holes for FAE dont make sense?

People put holes in the top of their tubs to let the CO2 escape and fresh air get in.
But CO2 is heaver then O2, so wouldnt you have to have holes in your tub that is lower then the casings, or else you would have a blanket of CO2 over your casings?
Even if you have an air wand under the casings, the O2 would just float straight to the top and the CO2 would still keep the cases in a blanket.

Duh once again on my behalf. I got to stop reading so much and start using some common sense.
Do these air holes eliminate the need for fanning completely?
Im guessing it would, as the CO2 would drain out the bottom holes creating a vacum inside sucking in fresh air from the top holes. Would be extremely effective im guessing.
Do you just plug with cotton wool?

Use polyfil (polyester filling for stuffed animals--Wal-Mart, Hobby Lobby, any craft store). Cotton will contaminate and rot. The idea with the mono- and dub-tubs is automation. Most growers will still mist and fan occasionally. You can also use tyvek for the tub holes. GL.

CO2 and normal air will not separate like vinegar and oil in a growing environment. There is always going to be a bit of circulation, due to the changing temps from the lights going on and off and the heat produced by the substrate.
CO2 production also falls off very rapidly during fruiting. Getting rid of CO2 is a GAS exchange concern with jars. Getting rid of stale air in an FC is an AIR exchange concern. Big difference. RR

I understand exactly what your saying RR, and its all clear what to do and why.
But the better half of me never goes past something I dont understand, What exactly is stale air? an oxygen molecule cant "go off".

"stale" air is stagnant, hasn't moved around much, the concentrations of gasses don't match up to that of fresh air, so it still sort of is about the CO2 concentration somewhat, its not so important to the developing fruits anymore when you're at that stage but it is important to keep contams at bay because they just love it

Yeah, I thought that might be what you'se are talking about.
Air is only 20%? oxygen.
So the O2 would be getting used up, and you would be getting a build up of the other 80%? of elements/compunds/dust/mites etc in the air. And a fraction of that would be CO2 aswell.
I understand now, thanks for clearing it all up!
Looking forward to my first bulk poo grow in a mono tub, should be exciting!
