For those who use cow manure, how do they prepare it
    #5717577 - 06/06/06 12:35 AM (17 years, 7 months ago)

Couldnt find any horse manure, so brought a bag of cow manure from the store.

This is what it looks like

I've never used horse manure before, so I have no idea what the consistency should be like. (or what I should do to this cow manure to make the consistency like horse manure)

Would adding some verm and coir to fluff it up do the trick?

For anyone that uses store brought cow manure, how do you prepare it?

verm should help fluff it up a bit.
you could also try adding cut hay to fluff it and add extra neutrients.

Most store bought bagged manure sucks for this use.

Suggest you try Tenn-Stud h/poo instead.

I live in australia, getting anything shipped over from your sponsers would not be worth the trouble because of the insane time/money.
Plus with quaratine laws, I dont even know if it will be allowed into the country.

If only they had sponsers situated in oz, oh well.

The manure is bone dry out of the bag, I'm thinking, soaking it complety in water so its soaked and mixing with required amount of peat/verm.
Then just let it drain and use. Kinda of like the pillow bag method I guess.

Sound okai? i'll post up a grow log if it turns out.

You want to go to your local garden supply store, or any store that carries garden supplies and get the stuff that says "All nateral" and "pre-composted" on the packaging.

This means it is pre-leeched and has been sitting out for abit. I still recommend you leech it yourself and give it two weeks out in the sun to dry it after the leeching proccess....

Next, you need to bring it back up to feild capcity, so use a laundry bag or something similiare that can be found at wallmart for 4 bucks and pack in your poo. pasturize at 170F for a hour, take out, squeeze out all the excess water and let it dry for six hours or so.

Also, with manure you'll want to add Whole Wheat straw to your mix, since manure is a slower colonizer then hpoo it leaves more paths for the mycellium to run along and speeds up colonization. You can even pasturize your manure and straw at the same time.

And then add your spawn yaddie yaddie ya...have a good one and good luck.

Try to find some wheat straw and mix it in with your poo. This will fluff it up and make it more airy for your mycelium to grow through. A little coir wouldn't hurt either. You'll want to pasteurize the mix before spawning to it.
