previous owner backed into a pole if anyone has some pointers or a tek online (i couldnt find much info) plz do share. im sure its much like patching a hole in the wall a big mess & lots of sanding, but other than that im clueless. how would i go about painting this afterwards so it looks like it never happened? what kind of paint...gloss..etc? how much would a job like this cost overall?

MACRO SHOT:

sidenote, summers here & i charged my A/C refrigerant by myself today, ...and without freezing and/or blowing my fingers off. 1st time ive ever done anything like this, my brother (mechanic) had always warned me how dangerous refrigerant was so i was nervous & cautious as fuck. good times. =) it wont fill passed 35 psi / discharge more than a can & a half,
but it works! =)

get a new bumper, fibreglass resin may work but it's not fun to work with, bondo wont stick to plastic

Yes a new bumper is your best bet.
But it isnt that bad.Just sand it down and get the bumper painted.Thats what I would do.It isnt pushed in or anything.

to be honest, it looks like a plastic bumper. your only option is fiber glass. but in all honesty i would just say either A
get a same color bumper from the junk yard, or take off that bumper, and have the whole thing sandblasted and re-painted.

hmm...
i can think of a million different things to buy than a new bumper.
it doesnt look that bad, but the gouges are really deep. i suppose sanding/painting would look better than as is.

I concur with the other posters. It is probably easier to get a new bumper.
But, if you were to work with the goo it is pretty easy. You just throw some gunk in the hole, let it dry, sand it down, and paint it. I had to do it once.

My father had a car when he was a teenager, the entire front half of which was about 40% Bondo. he got in a crash one day and the entire hood literally shattered like a sheet of glass.
That damage doesn't look to bad to me, I would just keep the bumper you got now.
