Ganoderma lucidum... an anti inflammatory agent, interesting....
Ganoderma tsugae, is indigenous to areas with hemlock trees and other conifers(which includes pine trees)... so that can not be ruled out... no reports on edibility...
the pictures I found on google image search did not resemble what I found.
I shall go back tomorrow and look for more of them, to make for an easier identification for you guys.

I use a cybershot also and the macro setting is the key "look for the lil flower" .. Well that with the proper light and you will see a HUGE difference in the close up pics...

Its funny, cause the owner of the camera just said the same thing to me after looking at the pictures.
That habitat was alright, and those few different species were abundant to the area. It was a pine/ birch/ maple forest, with a thick layer of duff over sand.
A small trout stream ran through one of the gullies, and in the marshy area surrounding the stream is where I found the last mushroom which is in question.

Like I mentioned, I think that last one is a ganoderma too. No it doesn't look like any ganoderma picture you'll find, but in one that is all bug eaten and maybe had some growth problems you could see something like that. They seem incredibly malleable when they are just growing, and can end up showing some real diversity if something alters their development.

Hey Jim,
Keep the pictures coming.  The first one is in the genus Mycena. The second is a
Psathyrella, and the third is in the genus Xylaria. The Xylaria make asexual spores first and have white fruit bodies and then they produce sexual spores and the fruit bodies turn black. I'm not sure what the fourth mushroom is.
I like this site, http://www.mykoweb.com/CAF/species_index.html , good pictures and descriptions on the pages for each mushroom.

It is pretty hard sometimes from a picture to tell them apart. The pezizas for the most part fall apart pretty easy when handled and the wood ears are rubbery and not at all fragile.
