excellent female vocalists in electronica
    #571712 - 03/06/02 03:55 PM (22 years, 1 month ago)

I quite enjoy female vocalists in various forms of electronica, I think the two work fantastically together, and have something that I don't seem to get out of male vocals in electronica. I love listening to them whether I'm high or sober, but particularly when I'm high, it's very soothing and positive. Order of below list is artist, good songs by him/her/them, and genre of electronica.

Hybrid - If I Survive, High Life, I Know - breakbeat trance
Kosheen - Empty Skies, Suicide, Face in a Crowd - jungle/dnb
Esthero - Swallow Me, Lounge, Heaven Sent, Indigo Boy - trip hop
Lamb - Cotton Wool, Ear Pierced, Gorechi - triphop, some almost dnb, some almost ambient
Afronaught - Transcend Me - techno/trance/breakbeat/dnb/IDM... no idea how to describe it
Sneaker Pimps - 6 Underground - trip hop
Madison Avenue - Don't Call Me Baby, Who the Hell Are You - funky house/disco house. much different groove than the other above artists

Those are my favourites. Anyone else have any good names to drop? I'm always looking for good music. BTW, icq = 24631249. If you dont have a shitty connection, I don't mind sending any of these songs.

Wow, I really like the AK1200 singer's style. Maybe it's just filters, but it still sounds pretty neat. I downloaded a few other tracks by them and realized that I have some of their other stuff on a dnb mix (moving shadow 99.2 - mix cd by timecode... really really good cd, and cheap).

Even though I don't quite consider her voice uplifting....Beth from Portishead has a very eerie and mystical sound.
I also like the chick who sings on the Break Beat Era CD.

Oh yeah....the song UNDER THE WATER..
by Brother Brown...the Deep Dish remix...If you Haven't heard this song CHEck it out....One of my all time faves!

Check out "Way Out West - Intensify" great breaks track with hauntingly sexy female vocals
the album with the same name is excellent as well...

def. massive attack. another sneaker pimps song called 'becoming x' is nice, the beth orton songs from chemical brothers. i sure hope you know about Everything But The Girl, fuckin smooth voice, great beats. check songs off of Temperamental, like "blame". hehe this kinda fits - The Orb - 'little fluffy clouds'. i gotta promote that everywhere. its a female vocal song, but she's talking. y'all got some good examples

You all listen to some cheesy ass techno!

By the way ak1200 is a dj (a shitty one at that) and he doesn't have a band or a singer. He spins other peoples music and thats about it. Thats why you hear "his" songs on other DnB mix tapes.

Death to cheesy simple-minded electronic, long live IDM.

People make cheese with all genres, and really good tracks of all genres as well. I've heard some god awful IDM by guys that think that all you have to do is have an album cover with pictures of circuit schematics and songs made by hitting the mute button periodically overtop white noise. also, of note, none of the above stuff that I or anyone suggested was techno, ya wanker

Pretty much anything off the last 3 Delerium albums - Semantic Spaces (especially track #1- "Flowers Become Screens" - mind blowing religious experience), Karma and Poem.

If you don't mind a little darker bent, the Recoil album -Chrome-
has some great tracks with Nicole Blackman singing on it...it's incredibly sensual.

Portishead - Numb/Numbed in Moscow/Sonar Blow Job/Pedestal/Lot More/Revenge of the Number
Morcheeba - Killer hippie (bad vibrations mix)
Tricky - Overcome

Ain't got much triphop, I'm more a junglist person.
But I really like these vocal songs!

I actually have a question here as opposed to a recommendation. Does anyone here know the name of the girl who sings wordless vocals in Orbital's song "Way Out"? Thanks
