I say the type of things that
    #5716664 - 06/05/06 08:53 PM (17 years, 7 months ago)

seem to end conversation.   Lately, it seems like I have no capacity to carry on a conversation with anyone. I just don't possess that "flow" that allows me to keep subject matter going.  I sort to drift off to other topics in my mind or something.  Not that I care...it's just odd how my social ability fluctuates.  I think I'm just focused on my own life more of late.

Anyway, I'm posting this because I'm noticing that it's carrying over to the Shroomery.  I hope my mouth motor gets going again by the time the Gathering comes!

Yours truly,

-The Conversation Ender

I felt that way all last night at famly dinner. I would try and join in on conversation, and usually my viewpoint on topics and the way I related to them was way off-base from the way most of my family views the world, and it was like instead of adding a new flavor to the conversation I just killed it for them. So I just shut up in the end.

Yeah, I worked out with some girls from work yesterday night, and it was like they were more interested in making faces at one another and making weird noises (a comraderie type of thing) and I didn't know how to respond to that...everytime I tried to say anything all conversation (and noise-making) halted. It got weird. But that is an extreme example.

I seem to ruin all conversation at work. Something I say just ends it, likely because I have no real sense of humor and am missing the point somehow.

I think that you're just being down on yourself, Elle.  You know, I bet that if a floating eye were in the room and observing, all he'd probably see is the flow of your words dissipating into the air but not because of any sort of rejection on the parts of your coworkers..I guess it's more like everyone is just all wrapped up in their own head in their own way.  I don't think you should think of it as "missing the point"...I dunno, maybe you just think on a different level. Now up or down...just off to the side. I wouldn't stress over it too much.

I have a hard time keeping the flow going as well, and often find myself being the end of conversations as well. Sometimes I just can't think of a reply. Sometimes in a attempt to not be the ender I try hard to think of something to say and end up saying something that seems pointless or odd.

Oh well. Some people though I can talk to better than others.

Secretly, I don't think I am missing any point at all, I just don't desire to engage the point.

WHAT'S the point again?  :tongue2:

That's true.  I guess I try to talk about things that other people would care about.  If I can't think about anything they'd care about, I don't say anything. The ~flow~ is better with some people then others.  Sometimes I can sense potential paths of conversation.  Sometimes I don't care and just spout off.

It varies.

:crazy2:

Some people are just looking at the point in a way that makes me think we'll never see eye to eye on the point. Like the point is always between us, an obstruction. Which is unfortunate. Because, it is the point after all.

Yeah. I really learned that when I was tripping on LSD in Alex Grey's gallery. All his work is constructed of just that: fathomless points.

Well, I mean I don't care about what they are saying a lot.  It's just that I do have the ability to socialize with just about any type of person if I have to.    But these days...eh.  I'm too distracted.  It's like I'm in "bare essentials" mode when it comes to being social.  I'm noticing it, but I'm not that bothered by it.  It's like..."whatever...now back to what I'm doing, lalalala!"

communication is not necessary. I used to worry about being somewhat shy, but I realized what's the point in useless unimportant jibber jabber anyway. it's not your fault you don't have the connection with someone. if you connect with someone closely, then you wont have to ponder over what to say next, your mental thoughts will be verbalized without hesitation.

there are times when you need to do small talk like when trying to get to know the ladies. but after recently putting alot of effort in a girl and failing miserably after shes done fucking with my head, i have realized i need to wait for the right one that i click better with on a mental level.

don't worry about it man

If you mean me..."awwww, how sweeet!"

Thanks...

I desire very much to connect with the people I work with.  Just about everyone, in fact.  So I try to bring myself to a similar vibration in order to synchronize.

I realized this recently myself. Trying too hard isn't doing me any good, and there are other people that I just connect with as you say and do have to work so hard with. Sometimes (mainly at work) I may be around people I don't connect with, and well in that case I'm just pretty silent. I used to think this was rude when everyone else would be talking, but its just not the way I am.

For what it is worth Ellemysh, I've been posting here again for a week or two, and after the first one I made, it felt like nobody responded to a single post of mine... 'till I mentioned stepping down as a mod... then everybody was there to step in and call me bitter.

Heh...

I was just happy to get a reply... finally. :smirk:

Your post in Robots thread was the first one of yours I've seen!  What's amusing is that I've been encountering mentions of "Cervantes" all week, then that guy I bought my bike from looked like you, and then you pop up again.   Obviously I saw this coming.

Communication is sort of pointless. Verbal communication is waaaaaay too limited for my likings. You can't share the exact experience just desribe it and the people get a totally different picture. The next step in our evolution(well this is just a whacko theory) is going to be some sort of tele-communication without having to physically speak. Sorta physic like. I am usually silent. I used to feel like I had to say something. Like it was required. I learned very recently that sitting there observing is just as good as part of the conversation. If I do think of something to say without trying to think of something to say then I will say it. But I will not just sit there and think of what to say. It is pointless and a waste of time IMO.
