Hi! I found 2 cubes yesterday, only problem is that when I broke the stems they turned reddish color instead of blueing. Just wondering what was up with these. Thanks

Some Agaricus species can bruise a pinkish-red color.. they can look really similar to cubes also. Both can have rings on the stem, darkish gills, and a similar cap color. Agaricus won't blue though.

Agaricus.... Here Here Yells YESSUP!
My hunting buddy and I came across sooo many stinking Agaricus yesterday!
I have seen them look about identical to a Cubensis. I have also seen them with purple/red spoor ringed around the top of the cap and with deposits on the veil remnants.
Agaricus do however tend to have a Opalescent hue about them unlike Cubensis.
Once a Correct ID is obtained Depending on sub species!!!! You may be able to enjoy it as allot of Agaricus are edible...
Better?

If they happen to be an edible species of agaricus. many agaricus species are toxic, and/or knows for causing GI upset or allergic like reactions in many people. it is a complex genus and specific identification is often dificult.

Attn PWN hunters: If you should come across a bluing Psilocybe matching P. pellicolusa please smell it. If you detect a scent reminiscent of Anethole (anise) please preserve a specimen or two for study and please PM me.
