I quit smoking weed about 2 years ago when i had to go to rehab for meth, and i've never been able to get back into it. Even with great weed, i get waaaay too paranoid to enjoy the high.

I don't usually buy weed nowadays, but my friends all get nothing but top quality buds. The other day, my friend had the most purple-looking buds I've ever seen. I've never been on one of those "wild goose chases" you speak of, so I can't really relate. And I've only had one friend who became a drug addict, and none who became a lethargic loser(except maybe me, but I don't even smoke that often).

During the early days I'd have to go on these wild goose chases, to get some OK hustle sack,I've even bought buds from an undercover cop, you defiantly can get into a shady situation when looking for some, sense it happened to me I've been known to pinch sacks, also passing off the yellow pages as good hydro, was a common way to trick dudes who where looking for sacks. Also ballers were getting jacked left and right around my neigborhood, I myself have jacked this baller, who later on became the biggest baller in our area.

But now days I have two good hook ups, very close to the actual growers, crystalized chron cured to perfection, hash, and many varities, if you grow, comming up is inevidable if you don't get caught, if you can't find it, I'd quit also, its not worth all the efforts, take a trip to Canada, bud is cheap and preveliant, but you can't take any back,

The only time I can consider smoking is when I'm drinking and that isn't much anymore. My $50 bag of nice 1/8 BC bud has lasted almost three months now with about a month left in my bag. I really enjoy having drugs around and not feeling like I have to do them like I did when I was much younger. It's a great feeling.

I smoked for 2 years heavily. I then noticed that after a while getting sober felt 'weird' instead of getting high. That is when I knew I should slow down. Lately when I smoke I get 'out there'. I cannot even funtion my mind is just spaced out I end up staring at the floor for a while till it starts to move. So lately I have not been smoking much except when I feel really good with it.

From the ages of 16-19 I smoked marijuana.  I loved it and it was my main hobby.  I spent thousands of dollars on pot.  I haven't smoked the stuff in years because it just isn't fun for me anymore.  Sometimes I reminisce about my marijuana days.  I wish I still liked getting stoned.  If I did I would do it all of the time.  But, I also think of all of the shitty things that I experienced in the weed scene.

Here's how weed was graded in my area:

Schwag:  $15-$20 an 1/8 ($25 if I was getting ripped off).
Schwag is disgusting.  It is brown, full of seeds, full of unidentifiable stuff (like twigs, acorns, and what looks like lawn clippings), tastes terrible, and gives you more of a headache than a high.  Often it has been compressed which just adds to the shittiness of it.

Commercial:  $25-$30 an 1/8 ($35 if I was getting ripped off).
Commercial is better than schwag.  It has slightly fewer seeds, is slightly greener, has an OK taste, and the high is so-so.

Good Commercial:  $30-$35 an 1/8 ($40 if I was getting ripped off).
Good commercial is better than commercial.  It has fewer seeds, you might actually start to see some green freshness and crystals, and the taste isn't bad.

Midgrade:  $35-$45 an 1/8 ($50 if I was getting ripped off).
Midgrade is pretty good.  It has very few seeds, has a good smell to it, tastes good, and gets you decently high.

Funk:  $50 an 1/8 (I would never spend more than $50 for an 1/8 of weed).
Funk weed smells great and strong (often piney, skunky, etc..).  It gets you high after two hits, the high is great, it tastes awesome, it looks awesome, there are no seeds, and it is often sticky.

My town never once had enough marijuana in it to satisfy demand.  Because of that it was very common for people to rip other people off.  One of the most common shady things was when people would advertise grades of weed as being one step above what they really were (Schwag as Commercial or Good Commericial as Midgrade).  Another common shady weed tactic was when people would pinch out of bags (even friends would do this to other friends).  In my town, the bags never weighed and the weed you got was almost always a rip-off.

Another thing that was common in my town; people talking up how they could get good weed and it never happened.  I have so many pathetic stories of going on wild goose chases to find weed and ending up at the strange house of somebody knew somebody who knew somebody who knew somebody who knew somebody that I knew.  After hours of tagging along with the person who could "get the good shit" it was all too common to walk away with an underweight bag that was garbage schwag.

Most of my pothead buddies who didn't stop smoking weed and who stayed in my hometown are now all either drug addicts (because they moved onto heroin, meth, etc..) or they are lethargic losers.  I have seen people with overdue bills sitting on their table and they had a choice between paying these bills or buying pot.  They seem to invariably decide to buy the pot.

Smoking weed also made me feel stupid.  If I had smoked a lot, the next day I would feel retarded.  I actually enjoy being sober most of the time now.  Granted, I still drink every once in a while and I do nitrous (thankfully I am cutting back on that).  But, I like how my body feels when I eat right, stay active, and am chemical free.

No offense to the pot smokers here (which I'm sure is 90% of you) but I just don't understand the pothead lifestyle anymore.

This only validates my theory that appreciation of 'the lifestyle,' as you called it, directly correlates to the availability of good weed.

If I lived in the same situation as you, I don't think I'd be a stoner. I never really liked marijuana before smoking high-grade, prior to that I thought it was ridiculous, and that people we're telling themselves they were getting high off that nasty shit.

Randal, come to California and you'll see things a little bit differently, for comparison, I'll make up a little chart which should elucidate on why the 'pothead lifestyle' is so appealing in my region.

Schwag

You don't pay for schwag here, that's horrible, 20 dollars for schwag? Ridiculous. Schwag is given away, typically, and is usually made into hash or some other form of smokable material as nobody really likes smoking shake in my region. Or at least such an action is typically uncommon. Schwag (shake) is usually given away in huge quantities, like garbage-bag full sacks of it, or set aside to make hash or butter from. It is not a miraculous event to find discarded bags of shake thrown places, often several pounds at once.

(I haven't smoked schwag in years, last time I did it was something my friend called the "schronic," or 'chronic-schwag.' It was shake with little buds in it.)

Low-Grade
Not sinsemilla, there's seeds everywhere and minimal crystals, furthermore, the bud does not have a pleasurable aroma or taste.
I haven't bought anything like this except for when I first began smoking. Some muscular asshole ripped me off, I remember who he was though, and I'll rip him off before my day is done because he was a fucking idiot.

I'm sure this weed is still sold, but I don't see it in my group of friends. I take this kind of weed and make hash from it.

Mediocre seed-weed

Growing your own marijuana is a fairly ubiquitous practice in my county, and as such many have hopped on the "band-wagon," however, they don't take into account the proper methodology of pot plant propagation; starting with desirable genetics. Sometimes they do an awesome job growing the stuff, and it usually is either free of seed or only has a few scattered lonelies, but the bud just isn't that great. It doesn't have the genetic propensity to be "dank."

Commercial (mid-grade)

Smells like pot, visible crystals, decent calyx-to-leaf ratio...
Good enough to endeavor in a smoke session with, but nothing to rant and rave about, whatsoever. This weed is always in circulation, and within the classification the quality can range a bit.

Commercial (high-grade)

Consistently good. Usually is agreeable with the palate and produces a decent stone. This stuff is usually shipped out, and then little bits will be around for local use or be sold in smaller sacks locally. This is the "standard" weed, albeit in comes in many shapes, smells and highs. It is without seed, and meets the criteria in smell/taste/high/looks. It is not "super dank," though.

The Dank, Chronic, whatever...

This is what we try and represent in the region. Whether it be super-pungent purple indica bud with superfluous crystal content, or some sweet-smelling hybrid with a unique high, this is the good shit.

In certain circles, this is what's around. It's usually home-grown and within a selective circle, there's an active plant trade going on in which bomb genetics are dispersed. My friends and I try to maintain a collective circulation of this kind of bud. This time of year, the flow begins to trickle though and the only dank dank is usually indoor. What do I pay for this? Electricity, water, nutrients, etc... It sells for over $4,000 a pound in my area. In Texas or some place like that, it would probably sell for over (easily) $10,000 per pound. I'm sure there's places where it'd sell for even more.

Astounding

For me, this would be a rare sativa. Everyonce in a while I get the pleasure of smoking some deliciously-grown sativa, which I absolutely love in comparison to the indica-dominant pot which floods the pot economy. This weed is usually grown by botany-buffs in greenhouses for personal use, and therefor is relatively hard to come by and is usually not sold. I would like to focus my efforts on growing dank sativas and sativa-dominant hybrids.

Point is, in my community people often just smoke each other out, and it goes around and around and around.

Makes the "pothead" lifestyle more alluring. The circumstances you describe would make most people hate the pothead modus operandi.

No sarcasm at all. My post was completely serious. I saw funk weed all over out there when I hung out with people. In my area of the country you just don't see that.

I've just realised the errors of my ways. Me n my mate were getting through a 1/4 a day just after christmas (it was free cause he dealt).

Tunrs you into a waste of space. Never again am I going to smoke to that extent.. Just casual joints at parties.

Btw the weed you were getting sounds shit.. My mate was paying 100 on the oz for the tastiest stickiest freshest bud I've ever had. So very strong
