I'd like to piggy-back on this thread, if you don't mind, Konnrade. I came back from a vacation and noticed that aphids have become quite a presence in my indoor garden.
If I put orange peels at the base of my stems I can expect to kill all these damned aphids? These things have taken root, covering the entire underside of the lower leaves of my plants. Their fallen egg casings are so plentiful they cover the pot rims like snow, or your friend with the dandruff problem's black shirt.
Is the remedy as simple as buying a bag of oranges, feasting, then scattering ample peels across the surface of the soil? How long will it take for this to have an effect and will it be enduring or will I have to reapply new peels at some point?

^^ orange peels contains pesticides and will work well , it contains something called d-limonene which makes the insect suffocate by removing the protecting wax that protects the insect's respiratory system. The pesticide is concideret safe to use and holds FDA S.A.F.E. standard. Tobacco water is a poor solution to the problem compared. An extract of orange peels will work alot better than just the peels (but peels will work good too) and can help stop many bugs including aphids and ants. A good solution indeed.
I'm just telling you what works for me. Tobacco by it's self is pretty useless, you'll need the soap too. When I had an infestation in my garden I would spray every other day (If it didn't rain.) after a week they were gone. If someone has used orange peel with sucess, go for it! I wouldn't go mixing up everything in the spice cabinet whether it makes your mouth numb or not. If the aphids are not killed quickly, they will kill the plants.

well I seem to have struck upon something useful.
I tossed some orange peels around the base of the plants, and combined with that I boiled some orange peels in water, along with tobacco. I then added a smidge of soap to the solution and repeatedly sprayed with it.
The two plants have resumed looking healthy.
