possible cobweb and/or wet spots
    #5712685 - 06/04/06 08:46 PM (17 years, 7 months ago)

Iam using a brown rice/ vermiculite pf style cake. i did not see any mycelium like growth. the temperature increased a lot this past week, and i have seen these white fiberous patches develop.

iam unsure whether this is the start of mycelium or the formation of cobweb mold.

I also have a couple dark spots. whether i have 2 types of molds growing or not iam unsure.

any identification would help greatly.

The first two pics are mycelium--note how strandy and filament-like the growth is. Cobweb will turn grey and decimate a jar quickly. The dark spots look like mold. If they grow, you know for sure. GL.

will the mycelium continue to colonize if i cut out the mold ridden areas? and if so what are the odds?

No. You need to sterilize that jar again before opening to keep from spreading those trichoderma spores everywhere. That jar can't be saved. Molds are introduced at inoculation, so check your sterile procedures.

The dark patches are for certain mold.  either sterilize the jars again before emptying the contents, or take the jars outside and empty them into a plastic bag.  Tie the bag and throw it right in the outside bins.
Sorry, better luck next time  :undecided:
