They left out the level for the guy that is writing the web server and doesn't give a rats ass about the HTML it serves.

i'm somewhere around 5 or 6, probably.. been working on using HTML-Templates through our own perl-based API to surpass and replace the inherent ugliness (in my mind) of php, by keeping code & design seperate, and having things being templated.

Welcome to MVC frameworks.  They are freaking great.  I personally am devoloping a php project with symfony ( http://www.symfony-project.com ).  I think the most complicated code I have in the view is an if statement or a loop.

Wow I had no idea we had so many experienced web designers on this site. Maybe it's time to start the HTMLery .

So who wants to recode our site layout as HTML 4.01 strict with no tables?

why not add AJAX, Ruby on Rails, some dynamic flash / css text replacement and a fluid layout?

but really i just finished converting my site to XHTML (validated) from html with tables, and MAN can i notice the difference.  what used to take .6 seconds to load on average now takes between .001 and .003

http://HipHopProduction.com/main.php = tables, not optimized
http://HipHopProduction.com/v3 = xhtml/css validated, AJAX, SEO and other nerdy acronyms like SATAY and etc.

on the old site and new site there is an indicator for how long the page took to load at the bottom of each page.

you will notice that the content on both pages is exactly the same, as its pulling from the same database. I don't even have to mention how easy it is to implement new skins for an XHTML page... but i guess i just did.. heh
