Game playing...

What is your take on activities that are highly enjoyable but distract you from longterm goals?
In my case, I spend a lot of my time playing an online video game (World Of Warcraft). I know in the end I'm not improving myself in anyway, yet I play it anyway, because the experience itself is an enjoyable one.
I ask myself if I should quit playing altogether so I can further improve my mind, but is improving one's mind worth sacrificing that which is enjoyable?

I ask myself the same questions, in a similar context, but pertaining to posting here.
Its a more difficult question because posting here (usually) implies improving one's mind. I ask myself if I should refrain from wasting time on here in order to improve my life situation and to pursue the fufillment of my goals, as opposed to simply increasing my understanding and my ability to articulate that understanding.
My answer is always "get the fuck up and go do something", but if I'm not at work, I am really fucking lazy.
 Peace.

Everything in moderate measure is healthy. I love WOW, but am currently exploring Oblivion. There is of course much more to my world than this.

Actually, I am totally obsessed with video games. I play them to the exclusion of all else...except for obsessively watching The 700 Club on television. These activities are my life entire.

Are you any good at the "Find Don Juan in Mexico and become a powerful sorcerer" video game?

I wish there was a Castaneda video game...that would be cool. It has all the elements of a great RPG.

BUT how about a 700 Club video game?

game playing is far better than televisoin watching and not as good as reading.

I didn't know the 700 club was still around. I'm glad there is quality TV out there. I may have to start watching, the Shroomery is getting too old hat.

Yes, Pat Robertson still speaks wisdom on the TVs of the Bible belt.

I grew up at the edge of the Bible belt. Man it's grim.

You have my condolences, and that explains a lot of the things you have said here is my guess.
By the way. You should move out west.

Perhaps. There is a good concentration of long haired fellows at my school to keep my hopes alive.

Time you enjoy wasting isn't wasted time. Besides, you can't be all serious all the time. A little play is needed by everyone.

It is an understatement to say that Oblivion has much more to its world than your own world.
I'm going to have to get an X Box just to play Oblivion... I loved Morrowind better on X Box, and my computer simply refuses to be peaceful with Morrowind as it is, so I can imagine how much it would reject Oblivion.
 Peace.

Entertainment, we spend most of the day wanting to be doing something entertaining, since work doesn't come close to being entertaining. I use to play Lineage: The Blood Pledge for atlelast 14 hours a day, non stop all day. Loved that game. Made plenty of friends from korea, china, and japan. Had a great time. Loved seiging castles and lvl my character and hunting with friends.
So that took away most of my time right there. When it comes down to it, what you spend your time doing is self-defining. You and you alone are the only person that can you say to yourself what is worth doing and what is not worth doing.
Peace, Octavius

That's sad. I remember that. Where I live now, churches are few in number. That makes the skies bluer. True fact.
