10 psi pressure cooker

I know i should be using a 15psi pressure cooker. However all i have is a 10 and no money to buy 15. I cant use WBS because of this (it doesnt seem to sterilize the peices like sun flower seeds and whatever else is in it). Well rye has always been fine, expensive but fine. Is it because they are not as dense, expand (cook). Has any one else used a 10psi pressure cooker? Also should i be cooking it for 90 minutes instead of 60 sense im using 10 psi? Or is that a bad iddea? Has any one else on here had to use a 10 psi? Also does any one know if corn can be sterlized in a 10psi pressure cooker (in spawn bags)?

I use 90 minutes for quart jars at 15 psi. At 10 psi, go for two hours. I wouldn't attempt corn at ten psi. Corn sucks anyway as a spawn. Just use rye or wbs. RR

you can use it, add 20 minutes to the sterilization time to make up for the lower pressure

what kind of pressure cooker, some of them you can just get the bigger rocker for the 15psi, but I am not sure if that would be such a great idea as well(not sure if they make the higher psi pc thicker or something to compasate) But you might want to look on line for you model and see if you could order the part you need. The reason I say this is that a friend of mine bought a presto that only cane with a 10 psi rocker but he could order the 15 psi one for it, so he was happy. just a thought. GL with your studys

I already have it, i cant get a diff one. We have had it for quiet some time. Im just wondering how much longer i should cook the RYE jars for (1/2 pint and pint) in the 10psi cooker compared to 15psi.

Hi,
I use a 10 psi cooker also, and it's always worked for me; the only contams I've had have been in the later stages of the process (fruiting, stupidly didn't sterilize what I rolled them in after a dunk). I cook the jars in the cooker for 90 just to make sure.
Peace
