I'd be more worried about your substrate recipe than the water content
Peat moss?

uhhhhh you're not supposed to use perlite in the substrate it should be 2 parts brf:1part verm:1 part water
i think you need to re-read things for about 12 hours before trying again.

Not the ratio I use at all.
more like 2 parts verm 1 part brf 1 part water.
acutually, I use... http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Cat/0/Number/5668288/an/0/page/0
but everyone is different I guess.
I suggest sticking to the pf tek if that is what you are doing and do every step to the letter.
Read far more before doing.
You will save time, money, and frustration in the end.

you can use whatever you want.
I strongly suggest not using perlite in any substrate.
You can use it in a pmp for humidity.
pf is brown rice flour, vermiculite, and water. no perlite.
