i'm looking for a pressure cooker and i've noticed that the price range is quite large....even for equal sized cookers, the price might range from 50 to 100 dollars....i just want to know if there is any significant difference in the quality of a pressure cooker that costs 50 bucks and one that costs 75 or 100....if i buy a cheapo cooker is it likely to break or wear out ?

All american pressure cookers that have a metal to metal seal are damn superior to the old school pressure cookers that use rubber gasquets as a seal.

I guess I got lucky. I picked up an "old school" pressure cooker from an op shop down under for AU$2. 1952 model, fully working with the original manual. It only fits five 1pint jars at a time but what a score. As long as the seal is ok and the pressure gauge working, I reckon old second hand PC's are sweet. Especially if you don't want to fork out a heap of cash. Azure is right though. The new metal/metal seal PC's are super, and while they do cost a bit, they should last you forever.

I own 2 pressure cookers.
A Manttra and a All American.
The Manttra pressure cooker.....does a good job...is small and I can only do 5 jars at a time....the rubber seal will wear out with time....no gauge.
I bought it new at a Senior Center for $30.00.....it was probably $80.00 in a store.
It came with alot of misc. crap.
Think i will sell it at my garage sale this summer for $30.00...lolzzz
The All American is a more expensive one.....but it does 9 jars at a time.
I bought it on Ebay for $61.00.....and it was in excellent condition.
I love the quality of the All American pressure cooker....no rubber seal...has a gauge.
Easier to work with..... well made.
I'll never use the Manttra again.
I guess what you use would be up to what you want to spend.

Baby Bear found an OLD 16 Quart Montgomery Wards pressure cooker on E-Bay. With metal/metal seal for only $28 american.....It can hold 5 quart jars single layer, could put in more if stacked or used pint jars.....Keep searching..All Americans are great but expensive........

What is the difference between the All American Pressure Cookers and Sterilizers? There is around a $100 difference between a 25q Pressure Cookers and a 25q Sterilizer, so I was wondering if the sterilizer is worth the extra.
