and a few foes. I sorta knew before hand, aswell as a different pan(I think) with an orange or almost red print, I didn't print them long about 3 hours, as I was itching to find out.
You can see I had them foes seperated on the righit, I found them hours later at a different place. Also one on the top left, but I had a mixed bag to sort.
First time looking this year.

Whoa, orange or reddish print? Perhaps reddish brown? Perhaps a DEADLY conocybe? Be careful man, concocybes and pans can grow side by side. Spore print every mushroom and throw it away if the print is not jet black.

I said I was printing them all, and also I knew that that one with red/orange print was a different species, I just wanted to compare with the other actives listed in NY, I only had one foe that I thought was a subb, as it had a flat cap and I thought foes didn't flatten out.
I wasn't asking for an ID this time xmush I was sure I had subbies. Thanks for your concern tho

Wow, went to a park today, that had literally thousands of foes, and I found one subb. 2 elsewhere I noticed, atleast in my area, that the subbs tend to have real skinny stems and you can see the gills look black while the foes are brown(well, with the ones I picked today).
Here's a pic of 2 tiny ones I found at the industrial park that got mowed and now has a no tresspassing sign...as if I harmed anybody walking around a fucking field of grass, didn't even have anything to litter that day either, carried the subbs in my hand.

Woot! getting close to a dose gonna check on my caerulipes spots today too since there is fungus everywhere.

As I am aware of the physical differences of mushrooms depending on habitat, those subbalteatus look slightly off.
I only find them in horse manure on the west coast, so I could imagine the differences in a field of grass up in New York would be quite a bit different. I would definetly make a spore print and get a picture of the gills before consuming.
For instance, look at the picture in my sig and you can see how your subbalteatus look a lot like foenescii.

I'll state again for those who can't read, I am printing them. These weren't growing off horse poo so they don't look like barry bonds.
I'll attactch another pic of print, this time with half a foe print covering it, for my camera is shitty.
They grow in lawns in California too, I read a report on here before of someone picking them.
I got a better haul at a differen't park, where there is lots more, but I felt I was there too long, as a guy came up on bike with camo and hung around watching me watch him; so after a min I went & watched some kids skate till he left which was a good half hour atleast...I just didn't feel comfortable picking with him there, looked too LEOish. These subbs had thicker stems. There's also lots of foes around, I spent all day yesterday riding around picking them, then I restudied my pics of them from the industrial park and seen the blackish color of the gills, then found the one in a million of foes today by looking at the gills, then today at the park it worked again.

I'll bring my camera with me later and take some fresh pics, if I feel safe too.
I should note there's been lots of rain, so much so the creeks are backed up and my caerulipes spots are flooded, but I'm not sure they grow in my area of New York.

Here's some pics of them in thier natural environment, also a short video to show the proximity of them in this particular spot.

I was 100% subbs earlier with looking at the gills for black, this time I picked without peeking up the skirt...prints posted There's around 80-100(and more to get tommorow)

Alright, that last picture actually does the mushrooms some justice. The others obviously of mixed pickings were not making me convinced.
Its hard to see the stem color...one of the most characteristic differences between the foes and subbs are the stem coloration. Subbs are more of a reddish brown. They have small white fibrils running up the stem. Also, the gills have a white edge to them. Obviously they are beefier as well.
Im just not too familiar with the lawn variety. In the 5 years or whatever I've been here in the hunting forum, Ive only seen a handful of lawn subbs, and 90% of them turned out to be foes.

Good find... I found a decent amount of subbs this morning in grass. I didn't pick too many because the haul from the ones I found in horse shit/hay was pretty fucking ridiculous.

your gonna eat those,, i suggest u dont i think they are panaeolus foenisecii as another member said, not 100% sure. "Curecut: Panaeolus foenisecii if dark brown spore print. (not hallucinogenic) Panaeolus subbalteatus if black spore print. (mildly hallucinogenic)"
look at my post , they look just like the ones i found , also gave so many pictures and video but not so much info recived so i took em ,nothing happend.

Dude - Do your own research first before expecting everyone to do it for you.
http://www.shroomery.org/index.php/par/23471
Is a good place to start - That's the Shroomery's hunting board. When you find shrooms - you need to do a PROPER ID. There are 1000's upon 1000's of mushrooms in the world, and all are part of the FUNGI kingdom - totally different to plants and animals. Only aprox. 250 or so (don't quote me on that!) have psilocybe pr psilcybin. YOU NEED TO BE 100% SURE before you eat anything. This is done by doing a proper ID, researching mushrooms, researching the species and asking intelligent questions.
I'm pretty new to shrooming too. But I have done my research and still do my research. You need to - before accusing people of posioning you when it was your own ignorance that got you there.
Also - Visit www.erowid.org, an excellent drugs and other such substances page.
KNOW YOUR BODY, KNOW YOUR MIND. And - Know your poison

That is a rad story!!! I mean, yeah the situation was sucky, but I like the friendly gestures! Hehehe, funny how one person has to make themselves somewhat vulnerable (the guy who took out his piece) before the mutuality of organic substances can be appreciated.

Just look for little brown mushrooms that have a dark ring around the outside edge of the cap. Most have a reddish tint to the stem. I've studied lots and lots of info on here, and when I seen my first subb I knew what it was, shortly after I found foes that look real close, but a sporeprint solves that problem. I'm very confident in my ability to distinguish subb from foe, but I still print when I find them.

yea i went out the other day like i think i said a little back in this thread or somewhere else and i found a bunch a little shrooms and then i found this thread or something of that order and i printed em all just to see what i'd get cuz they all looked like the same and some prints were BLACK like strait up and the rest were brown but like only four or so were black. what im wondering is, most places say that all or many pan's have black prints. im wondering if these were something other then subbs i mean they looked like em kinda but they were very little/young soo....dono!! haha and i also found this really odd looking kinda one in the next yard over. dono. i'll post pics if i can get my cam back from my friend tomarrow. ahhh haha i just wanna find one sooo bad cuz im sooo happy i found an Amanita muscaria formosa but blown that i fucked it up by putting them in a place where they molded!!! and it was fast as hell too... but i tryed a little bit just to feel a little weird but still. blew... what ever i'll post pics if i can get my cam and go pick some more mushrooms and post em and see if you know what they are thanks -SenselessRebel

no kinda about it, I KNEW when I seen my first subb, and a day after picking a bunch of foes that sorta looked like it--I found a spot with subbs and I knew immediately.
I've been hunting anywhere with grass, not even the best grass, my best producing spots is spotted with grass clumps(dirt where there's no grass) and the subbs grow both from the clumps of grass and the dirt; but I think you would be better off hunting some horse pastures for manure/stable shavings piles for them to get the idea of what they look like in person.
All subbs drop black spores.

Some patches are near creeks and stuff, but most of the ones I found were just patches that were in the middle of the woods, with no water around. I'm only like 10 mins away from the PA state line.

No Caerulipes, but I found some subbs in hay, biggest ones I've got so far.
I have pics of them on the hay, but not on my camera, I'll get them eventually. They got a little beat up as I was keeping them out of sight and somebody didn't see them.

I was pissed today after going to 3 different caerulipes spots in 3 different cities at 3 different elevations and not finding any caerulipes, so I went out to my subb spot tonight. I was told by a very trustworthy source that my fav subb spot is a park that was built over top of a dump, so that may be why there are so many at this spot. I got 3 handfulls before a police officer showed up and parked(I was the only person there and it was raining) so I dropped the handful I had, started picking the pinkest clovers(to say they were for my mead if asked what I was picking,) and left.

The top set looks like subbs to me. The black spore-print and habitat pretty much confirm that that is what they are. Also, on that one pic you can really see the twisty fibery nature of the stem which you don't tend to see with pan foes. Nice find.

Who where what? I'll do it then!
Errrrmmmmmm time for an update.
Found subbs a few times this year (been rather dry,) but I let em spoil because I was incapacitated. But I found some today and took pics. Little scraggly, but I'll take em; most, if not all, bruised blue, which is strange for around here.

Here are two or three that I found, most of them that I found this day were foes however. I'm pretty sure these were some subbs.

fields of lawns?? I dunno I find them all over. Here's some curious onlookers posing for me while I was picking subbs.
I stopped off at a university on the way over to a friends house, and had a quick walk around the building and think I found two outta the millions of foes. We got rain today so hopefully more will be around soon.

I also found some at park, but I wasn't 100% so they probably are foes, but they're printing.
This weekend I'm going to be hunting hay bails HARDCORE, as I know of a stash; even though the grass clipping piles haven't paid off anything yet, I've only seen inky caps growing, but that's a sign, oh and I seen this guy.

hey if i just took a hose and sprayed water over a certain area of my lawn for a few days, do you think some subbs would start to grow....its the right time of year but wheres ther rain damnit!!!
EDIT: is it really the right time of year?...because i remember last summer it was raining a lot near the end of july and into august and i saw a lot of pan subbs and/or foes in my yard.....I always suspected them of being "special" because i had heard somthing about lawn mushrooms before ....but i didnt know exactly what they were called or how to ID them....but NOW i know, and there arent any mushrooms in my whole fucking yard...it just rained two days ago for the first time in a while but i suppose that isnt even enough to bring up a few subbs
I'm going to try watering spots where i saw subbs and/or foes in my yard last summer...ya know, just stand there with the hose and spray a mist-like stream of water back and forth over that area...very thoroughly....yep, i'll do that once a day for a few days and then maybe wait a bit to see if anything happens..... i know it proabably sound stupid but its worth a try...and i dont have a car yet or a job so i have plenty of time on my hands.....quite boring indeed:(

Well it's very possible that you do have some Pan subbs in your yard, even though I've only found most of mine in horse fields. It just depends on what the mycelium wants, they might never grow again and then again you might get hundreds. Try the hose tactic but don't get your hopes up.

You'd be better off hunting rich people's yards(green grass with sprinklers etc...) than watering and hoping your lawn produces them. I haven't found them in MY yard yet, lots of foes. I just went and hunted a cemetery, and found tons of foes, but no subbs. Last year at this time I was finding tons of subbs, but we also just passed the 1 year anniversary of the 100year flood, so it's the time, just not enough rain, yet.

yeah, well I'm pretty sure that i found subbs in my yard before and not just foes.....its just started raining about an hour ago so hopeful that will help.....although after this some-what dry spell, I'm going to need a few more days of rain before I can really look forward to a succsesful hunt....I'm prob gonna go back down to the river near my house tommorow.....the slope leading down to it seems to be much liked by many different mushrooms that i dont see lower in the river valley(most of which i have yet to identify)....i guess those certain types like the higher elevation, and as a matter of fact, i think i may have found a bluefoot two days ago on the same sloped area ...but it could have been just a similar type of mushroom although the base of the stem seemed to be bruised a purpleish/blue color...but the cap was more half-spherical instead those "wavy" caps that you see on most bluefoots.
I'll post a pic if anyone wants to see what I'm talking about.

well, just don't get your hopes up is all I'm saying.
Stopped at a spot that looked nice while I was on the way to a friends house.
Kept a foe too Didn't really expect to find anything(lack of rain)so I left the camera in the car, so no in situ Going camping for the weekend, so I took the babies too, that's right I EAT BABIES!
More bluing on these guys too

I have found mushrooms similear to the above near me, they were found growing near but not on manure. I cannot tell if they are subs or foes, how likely is it that one can find subs in the east of England? I'm currently spore printing one.

likely, they grow worldwide
My camping trip didn't go as planned, so I never even seen the hay bails, but did see and catch some bass and crappie.
Might go for a walk later, see what's happening.

damn dude... you're making me jealous
jk....seriously though, I'm going hunting again tommorow and I'm not coming back to the house until i find an active mushroom(s)....at LEAST one is what i mean..hopefully a whole fucking field's worth but that isnt likely.
BTW mead, when you look for subbs do you mainly stick to grassy areas or do you check out fields(tall grass) and/or slightly wooded places? I'm asking because I'v just looking around in my lawn where I'v seen them before but they havent shown up yet...idk..maybe its too early in he summer...might have to what till late july or even later into mid-august, i really have no fucking clue....their enigmas, I tell ya

no prob, they're out there in Minnesota too
Ganjika: I stick to mainly grassy areas. If I were you, I'd go to a golf course, and check around the tee boxes, I haven't NOT found subbalteatus mushrooms on the courses I've been to this year. But rain is the big player, It was dry last July, but in August I started finding them again.

9 times out of 10 I will find subbs in freshly laid sod. It is very rare for me not to find them there. Look for new buildings, condos, houses. They almost always lay sod. I was going to the store the other day and noticed some new condos, and what do you know, a ton of subbs. I don't pick em because I don't like having to eat that much put I still get a kick out of finding any active.

Round here, 9 times out of 10 I don't find any subbs on new sod, fact I don't even look for sod or new grass anymore, just nice grass. The parks I hunt have been established for many many years. Golf courses, tho, may use sod, I dunno, not a greens keeper, but they have nice grass.
