Pipes from Bottles - a sketchy operation

I've spent a little free time building bongs and pipes from glass bottles. I'll offer this as a sort of guide, but also, a spot for comments. My process is still about as rough as it comes. Sorry about no pics, I haven't any of the process, but several of a final product.
First, pick a bottle, and whether you'll have a water pipe or bong setup. A hookah of sorts is also quite doable.
Next you'll have to make a hole in the bottle. Where your hole goes depends on which style you're building. If I have to explain where the hole goes for each, maybe you shouldn't be reading this. This is the hardest part of the whole job, because putting holes in bottles without exploding them is not easy. It can be done with a drill press if you're very careful and slow, or a drill gun, etc. I would not recommend a blowtorch! The heated air will not escape the mouth of the bottle fast enough, causing it to explode!
Anyway, after some sweat and tears (hopefully no blood) you'll have your newly holed bottle. You'll need some tubes, screens and some bowls, and possibly a mouth piece. If you did a water pipe, consider a stem or hose setup. Sucking through jagged glass is nones the cool. Where will you get these things? Glass tubes can be found in eyedroppers, just pop off the rubber bit. Metal tubes at a local hardware store. Bowls and screens from your head shop, or from broken bongs or pipes you might already have.
Fitting all these pieces together takes a bit of patience, and making it air/water tight is the work of some clever caulking/gorilla glue use. Hot glue is an option for a quick build, but if you're taking the time to drill a bottle, might as well do it right. Make sure you're not going to be inhaling any of the glue fumes, unless you're cool with dying.
Anyway, this guide didn't provide much, but I'll display some photos of a finished product.(With hot glue, I was in a rush.)

I'd like to point out the ugliness of hot glue. Hot glue = bad.
Edit: If anyone has any suggestions on how to make this a little safer, I'd be much obliged. My current project: Bawls bottle. In case you don't know what that looks like, it's pretty much built as a trip toy:
They are indeed very bumpy, and very blue. I had fun pointing at things with one while tripping.

I was in the BWCA, 20ish miles into wilderness, built a bong out of a vodka bottle. It was so choice, still exists

easiest way to use is a bottle is find a nice bottle you like. then go to a hardware store buy a rubber stopper and drill two holes into it. then with two plastic tubes use one as the tube you will suck from (and it just barly enters the bottle after going through the stopper) and the other tube drops into the water from the stem that is connected to your bowl piece (improvise in making this, the thing in sinks that filters the water into a stream works well as a screen then use some metal tools or something as a bowl) or just use a bowl from a real bong.
either way the rubber stopper if used correctly makes a rather air tight hookah. i recomend shopping at value village or other thrift stores for botttles or cool vases or lamps. the possiblities are endless.

I have a bear honey jar sort of thing, but I'm a little iffy about drilling holes in it. I also have a little plastic one, but it would make for a pretty weak bong. As for drilling holes in jars in general, I'm not so sure how it would work. Similar to a bottle I would assume, although the jars I have are quite thick.
If anyone tries it, post the results.

I smoked out of a buddies sobe gravity bong and realized how awesome, easy and efficient it was, so I decided to make one. I didn't know how to go about it at first, so I did some internet research and found nothing. All I knew was it was easiest to make the hole in an indent, of sorts, at the bottom of the glass, only found (as far as I know) on sobe bottles. I decided to just go with the hammer & nail method; couple whacks and I had a decent hole in the glass - no cracks or other problems. To make the hole bigger I just chipped away the original hole with the hammer and nail. To make the bowl I just made an indent in the cap, poked two holes in it, took the plastic off from inside the cap and viola! Fill 'er up with cold water, all the while holding your hand over the hole, put your goods on the cap, light, let the water flow, take the cap off and away you go.
This was *incredibly* easy and it is very efficient.
I'm sure you could just make all your glass pipes out of sobe bottles, taking advantage of that weak spot.

I have tons of those bottles lying around. Used to consume SoBe like a demon before I discovered Bawls.
I'll definitely try that, however, I would not recommend trying to hammer any of the following 8 oz. bottles: Coke, Sprite or Bawls. They explode. And it's scary.
Very scary.

heh looks alot less sketchy than i thought. was with a few friends out on a hill one night, and we ran out of papers, so we got a plastic bottle, some tinfoil that our stuff was wrapped in, put it over the part you drink out of, made a few lil holes in it, burnt a hole at the end of the bottle, and folded the top part with the drinking part upwards, threw the hash onto it and smoked away, now that was a dodgy pipe!

Can the critics still deny that the geometry of matter is directly related to the harmonic interweaving of light itself? There is no substance, in the absolute sense. We live in a reality of un-reality; all is an illusion and the stuff that dreams are made of. Our physical world is nothing more than a resonating ball of light and shade." "If the doors of perception were cleansed every thing would appear to man as it is, infinite. For man has closed himself up, till he sees all things through narrow chinks of his cavern."

Incredible, I really can't believe I've never heard of those bits before. I restore cars off and on, but I suppose I've never had to drill glass...
Seems like I'll be creating a whole lotta bongs.
