I hear that is not going to happen. There are some that just dont like change. And there is an unfounded fear that no one would help out the newbies. Neither of which I think is a realistic concern.
I say this place NEEDS it, or something like it.
Until then where all spinning in our wheels to go no where fast.

i dont see why its necessary, newbs always get the help they need from
what i can see, and the only time their questions get criticized is when its obvious that if they would have done a simple search their question could be answered faster than waiting for a response

I think when a 'noob' doesn't put 'noob' in his own post topic...and when someone doesn't scream 'noob' at him...then this one forum works wonderfully..the more you split the forums, the smaller user base there will be for each section..

There is a huge leap between a beginner in mushroom cultivation and an advanced mycologist. Many of us here are beyond the first years that constitute "beginner" but still quite a good distance from "advanced mycologist" Not enough educated thinking is spawned in the mushroom cultivation forum because its probably at any given time, around 60% beginners...

but how will the beginners help the beginners? they rely on those with experience to answer their questions. there are beginners that have legitimate questions (not "its been 3 days and i dont see anything!") those aren't what i consider to be "beginner questions" I enjoy helping people, what i dont like is being someones personal search engine, giving them links they could have found themselves with minimal effort.

I would still help them... I'm sure most people would. It would just be nice to have a place dedicated to the giant gap that exists after a few successful crops and before advanced mycological studies.

Maybe a sub forum...
and no one has to answer a thread or post if they don't want. If you don't want to look things up for them...don't. You must admit though, teaching is a good way to define your own learning. Repetitive teaching is not so great, but it sticks in there longer.

grows: about 40. questions answered: a couple dozen maybe. questions asked: half as many probably.
I consider myself in the learning stage still for sure. I try to look up my own questions and share my own experience.
I've found out that my own experience is not the best to share becasue I tend to make mistakes. By showing my mistakes though, others have taught me to correct them in hopes for a better turn out for me.
Now that I think about it... I haven't really answered anyones questions at all. All I have done is relay someone elses answer to them. Nothing I come up with is of my own creation.

making a newbie forum is a waste, in my opinion
95% of the answers newbies need are out there, and the other 5% of the questions are usually off the wall and not really cultibation related.
i understand it might be confusing at first trying to find answers, but you can't hold these peoples' hands forever.
if you can't find the answers you're looking for using the search function try searching in a different way - different keywords, limit the timeframe of the search, search in the topic only instead of topic and body - heck, when i can't find a specific answer i do a google search and set it to search shroomery.org
the answers ARE there friends, you just have to want to find them bad enough
-------------------- please do not take everything i say here so personally. welcome to teh internets!
