Handling Jars to much.
    #570621 - 03/05/02 02:48 PM (21 years, 11 months ago)

If I handle my jars too much can you bruise the cake while it's still in the jar? I've been flipping them back & forth due to water condensation. I have a slight discoloration on them but it looks like a slight bruise. Is this possible or is more than likely contam? The jars have the discoloration where the cakes first mecillium grew. Any help would be great even guesses.

These cakes are very near birth.

Cookin up some fuel for us all.

It is possible, however unlikely you could bruise them. Sounds like you did somehow though... If the bruise is bluish it is a bruise...any other color, one woiuld speculate a contam. DOnt worry about flipping them, its not needed.

Handeling the jars do open a window for contamination to grab hold of the cake...When you open your incubator, does it smell mushroomy or sour?  Sour would most likely mean you have something else growing in there rather than just mycelium.
