RH suggestions

I should be ready for fruiting in a couple of weeks so I am finalizing my FC. This is where I'm at right now...
I still need to install the air pump but my question for today is regarding RH. As you can see I already have perlite in the bottom. Unfortounately, this only brings my humidity up to approx. 70%. I'm guessing that the lack of performance is just be due to the large sized tub. I have about an inch or two or perlite, would more do anything? I was considering adding a cup or water with a fish tank thermometer in it? I know theres always the option of a humidifier but I just wanted to see what kind of suggestions the rest of you have. Thanks so much for your time!

ok so i'll scratch the cup of water idea. I added a little more perlite so I have the 2" now (only needed 1/2"), i'll see how that treats me. Should perlite still be able to take care of a 50 Gal. tub?

when you use the perlite, make sure that the perlite has it all absorbed, because standing water= contams swimmin pool..

What kind of hygrometer are you using. It might actualy be higher than your hyg. is reading.

I just got it from albertsons...it's a thermometer/hygrometer. Is it likely for it to be that inaccurate?

Alot of hydrometers are totally inaccurate beyond 70% or so. I had a mechanical one I got from a pet store, said my humidity was 70% in a poor mans pod. Got a nice digital one and put it in there and it read 99%. HippieChick told me that 70% was wrong. Always listen to HippieChick

You'd actually do better with maybe 3" of perlite in that big tub. If the walls of your FC have dripping condensation, your humidity is near 100% (perfect for cakes). If the walls have a thin, light condensation, your humidity is somewhere in the 85-90% range (better for casings). Add a little bleach to your perlite to hold down contams. You can also do a salt teat to calibrate your humidity gauge. GL.

You definitely get what you pay for! I spent $50 on a Taylor analog that worked nicely for awhile then went to shit I then bought a germany analog hygrometer that cost me over $150 that was the shit and worked very nicely and still does but now days it's a psychrometer only as they are as accurate as they get (especially at higher RH) and once the FC is dialed in a hygrometer is no longer necessary. Psychrometers also never need calibrating ever!
-------------------- Getting the most out of your casings!, A pinning strategy. Oyster Shell "Flour" $2 for 1lb. a hell of a deal Not what is overlay but rather what overlay is Gas Exchange vs. FAE "We all have priorities. I used a closet once setup a nice little lab trouble was all the shit that was in there ended up in the bedroom that pissed off the GF then I ended up dumping her as she was getting in the way of my sterile culture technique! Ya I got priorities too!!!"
