Do you know how many stir plates we have hanging around the laboratory?  The only thing they're stirring up is dust.

If they have hot plate function as well as being stir plates... then I'd be willing to pay for one if you were able to liberate it

You drop a stir-bar in a beaker/flask, and the plate stirs it for you magnetically.

I'll take a look and see what I can find.

Now that I've thought about it, it's a lil difficult to describe.

A stir plate is just that. It is basically a small box with a magnet inside. You place another magnet on top (inside of a beaker or flask) and then the magnet inside the box spins. This spins the magnet on top and it stirs a solution for you.

i can build them to the specs you provide with the available options being variable speed, lighted power switch, lighted speed control, stainless steel top, plastic top, 120 volt or 12 volt powered, ability to stir up to 3 items at once per unit.. all for a negotable price.. the one you see above cost me about 50 dollars to build.. PM me for prices

I May be able to build in some kind of heating element.. its gonna take me a while to figure out how to make it work properly what kind of temps are you looking to get from it? hot enough to boil water or just warm for like incubating an LC?

I'm sort of anal about the specs of my equipment.

If I was just using the plate for mycological applications, such as with LC's, then I'd buy one from you. I'm looking for one for laboratory use, though. Which means I need one that is well-constructed and very safe. Explosion-proof is also necessary, which means brushless motors, careful construction, etc.

At some point I'll be working with ether, if I used a stir plate whose motor had brushes in it, my chances of dying in a fiery blaze are significantly increased.

i used a brushless motor in the one above. i can seal the unit from the atmospere, and fill it with inert gas (argon) to displace any room air then place it under slight vacuum about .125 atm. so the interior of the unit contains no unstable or reactive gases. I have a full machine shop at my disposal and can build it from any material you require, just be aware that the higher standard i have to build to the higher the price is going to be.. I can guarantee it will be lab quality and will stand up to any commercially available unit.

Would you be able to integrate a hot-plate function into it?

I'm tied up financially at the moment, but perhaps after a month or two I will be able to contract your services.
