question
    #5704307 - 06/02/06 02:14 PM (17 years, 7 months ago)

I searched on my area to find sawdust but I can't find some. The only sawdust I found is from treated wood. Can I use just wood chip/bran/gypsum for shiitake or Hericium erinaceus? I know the colonization will be longer but I don't care.I have another question, Can I start with lc of shiitake or Hericium erinaceus to inoculate rye?

thanks

Check your local tree surgeons out. Where there's a will there's a way

Hi jisk8,
You wrote,Thanks for the reply but you think it can work without sawdust? Can I start with lc of shiitake or Hericium erinaceus to inoculate rye?

I think with the Hericium it will be hard to get nice fruit bodies on just grain. They only need a little bit of air to initiate fruiting so you would probably end up with fruit bodies all over your grain. I've seen Shiitake fruiting on just grain.

You can start with a liquid culture with those two species and inoculate rye.
