diffent looking mycelium for different strains?

Basically I have two mini bulk casings going right now. Just mixed the grains with straw bla bla...One of them is Cambodian and the other is PESA. Think it's PESA but now im wondering if i dont happen to be doing a grow of some other type of mold :p
I made the PESA casing with a jar that I had given up hope on but then one day started growing this white patch. Since it had been a long time from when I inoculated the jar (AND I inoculated with an LC which I'm pretty sure now doesn't even have mycelium in it...only debris at the bottom) I figured it was probably just mold but I thought fuck it might as well let it grow... could be interesting you know. I then started seeing alot of rhizomorphic growth in that jar so I figured it really was mycelium.
ANyway so then one day I made these 2 casings and have up till now been waiting for them to be fully colonized. Its strange though, because other than the color, the Cambodian mycelium looks absolutely NOTHING like the PESA. I swear that PESA freaks teh shit out of me, it doesn't look normal Im afraid to touch that shit. But other than it looking scary as hell it doesnt have any foul odors...just that musky mushroomy smell. Also....since the PESA mycelium seems to be only rhizomorphic or whatever its covered pretty much all the areas but not making it fully white. Hard to explain but check out the picture. Can someone tell me if thats normal?? Im thinking even if they are different strains they are still the same species in the end, so I find it hard to believe such a difference in the appearence.

and ya kinda too much flash, but you get the picture :p

yea about the different appearances, i have found that not only do the different strains have different looks, but also different substrains look different, for example, i have 6 ecuadors growin right now, 3 are really rizomifsojdofovc(whatever the hell that word is), but 2 others are fluffier and 1 is just chill....but your pick is hella rizorimfoasjsllsdajklw so it looks good, shouldn;t you be tryin to fruit it now? It looks sorta normal, but i never have done straw....

Hmm well either way those couple pieces of straw will be under the casing layer and not exposed to the open air after so hopefully that wont be a problem
On a different note, I'm also doing a monotub right now and applied a very thin casing layer (like 1/4" for a 2 or 3" substrate depth) a couple days ago. Since I cant find any vermiculite where I live nor did I have an plain coir or peat on hand at the time, I had to improvise and use a cactus soil mix. Its not really teh same as the cactus mix described on here or mycotopia (Way lit Jim was the guy using it over there...) cause I get the feeling this stuff is much more dense and less airy. Thers no vermiculite in it just really really tiny pebbles to aid in drainage I suppose...maybe a bit of sand. And I believe it's made on the basis of peat and theres some clay in it as well it seems. Anyway since I noticed how fucking heavy this stuff was I figured id do a real thin casing layer which i didn't pat down AT ALL. Just rubbed it between my hands and let it sprinkle over the straw.
WEll problem is now like 3 days later (I think 3 days cant remember though) there are about 2 or 3 patches over the whole surface area which are white. I'm afraid maybe the stuff is so dense that its restraining the mycelium from coming through. Is that a possbility? And if so, might it be a good idea to carefully remove the casing layer??
thx in advance
