Bush on 9/11

President Bush Holds Town Hall Meeting [CNN, Aired December 4, 2001] QUESTION: One thing, Mr. President, is that you have no idea how much you've done for this country, and another thing is that how did you feel when you heard about the terrorist attack?
BUSH: Well... (APPLAUSE)
Thank you, Jordan (ph).
Well, Jordan (ph), you're not going to believe what state I was in when I heard about the terrorist attack. I was in Florida. And my chief of staff, Andy Card -- actually I was in a classroom talking about a reading program that works. And I was sitting outside the classroom waiting to go in, and I saw an airplane hit the tower -- the TV was obviously on, and I use to fly myself, and I said, "There's one terrible pilot." And I said, "It must have been a horrible accident."
But I was whisked off there -- I didn't have much time to think about it, and I was sitting in the classroom, and Andy Card, my chief who was sitting over here walked in and said, "A second plane has hit the tower. America's under attack."
Another bushism or just a revelation?
(keep in mind that the video that filmed the first plane hit the tower did not surface until AFTER the second plane...)

Thats out of context.
I was watching the building burning on TV while the second plane hit the tower. While I didnt see the actual plane hit the first tower, I knew what had happened and I could phrase my words a thousand ways that would make it sound like I did.
Its funny. I was on the phone with my best friend who is Mormon. His entire family was going to go to church and he invited me. I didnt go but at church all the Mormons were in a buzz because this could be what they had believed all their lives.
The end of the world is coming and only those who have planned for it will survive. Mormons really believe that they will be the only survivors after Armageddon.

Works for me... who in their right mind would want to live in what is left after Armageddon?

Even if you knew what happened, you wouldn't say that you actually saw the first plane hit the tower, would you?

There even was a second occasion during which Bush stated that he saw the first plane hit the tower:
President Holds Town Hall Forum on Economy in California [whitehouse.gov, January 5, 2002]
"I was sitting there, and my Chief of Staff -- well, first of all, when we walked into the classroom, I had seen this plane fly into the first building. There was a TV set on. And you know, I thought it was pilot error and I was amazed that anybody could make such a terrible mistake. And something was wrong with the plane, or -- anyway, I'm sitting there, listening to the briefing, and Andy Card came and said, "America is under attack."
Here's the entire transcript of what he said that day, if you're afraid that I'm quoting out of context: http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2002/01/20020105-3.html

people talk strangely.
i don't think this is anything to make too much of actually.
i can envision him saying it just that way even if it does sound odd, and that there isn't anything too particularly loaded in it.

Nothing loaded in saying that he saw the first plane crash into the WTC before everyone else??
What he's saying is that while he was sitting outside the classroom, actually in his limousine, at around 8:45, he saw the first plane! This implies that he had a live transmission arranged for him in his limousine, and therefore that he had prior knowledge of what was going to happen

Search for the loose change video on the net. I watched it yesterday and was blown away. If the things said in this video are true than I would say the government was behind 9/11. Obviously the facts would need to be checked and some more questions would have to be answered, but it is very intriguing.

i'm saying you're looking too biasedly into it.
people's memories suck, and Bush has never been a great speaker.
I mean, I'm not denying the conspiracy theories at all.. i'm just saying this is taking things a bit far.

^^^ agreed
That's what happens when you know you have to lie. Bush probably had to lie about what went through his mind that day, since he probably had prior knowledge and he can't admit to that. So he had to make up a little story about how things went from his point of view, and thought of the "lousy pilot" joke, unaware that the story doesn't add up. It just proves he's lying about what he did and thought that day, nothing more IMO.

maybe, but I don't think so. I'm taking what he said word for word, that he saw the first plane hit the tower that morning

But everybody remembers where they were what they were doing when they first saw the attack.... And sure, he's not that good of a speaker, especially when there isn't a pre-written speech for him which is the case here, but he said what he said, and he said it twice.
I first wondered if it was possible for him to make the huge mistake of revealing this, and then I thought, Well yah, why not, this is Bush, its possible! Besides, there's probably too many lies for him to keep up with... i guess he forgets sometimes what to say and what not to say...

I don't. I heard about what was going on as I was driving into work on the radio, but they didn't really know what was up. I don't know for certain when I actually saw what happened, or knew it was an attack rather than an accident.
I do remember a lot of confusion. A plane hit the WTC, no two planes, no a plane hit the whitehouse, no the pentagon, no it was a helicopter that hit the pentagon, no a helicopter crashed at the Pentagon, no the whitehouse was hit by a helicopter, no the ...

Wow what news station were you watching? I heard the towers had been hit, and a little later on the Pentagon got hit. I was taken out of school because my mom thought for some reason that would be the next target. I remember her crying in the car, and the radio casting that grave news, and it was the first time I heard it.
I remember exactly what the day was like, it was damn nice out and there was a very eerie mood. I remember seeing people with candles on the street, I remember people being strangely nice and helpful to one another. I remember seeing a single commercial airliner much after the attack and thinking "oh shit whats next"
I even remember what the news stations looked like on 9/11. One had a slogan like "America Under Attack" inside a circular radar type thing in the right hand corner.
The day before, the day after, I have not recollection of, but a day like that, you will remember for the rest of you life.

Ya exactly, I remember lots of details like that too. Like the astonished look on my parents face that morning when they said "another plane crashed in WTC", and I was like, "wait wait wait, is this a dream?" lol. And then my dad hurrying me, saying "your not going to be late for school just becasuse of a plane crash...". And then in math class when some guy said that the towers collapsed. I thought it was a joke, i couldn't really believe it at first. And everyone talking about the same thing in the halls.
Really precise moments of the day that I'll probably remember for the rest of my life.

I definitely remember the events vividly. My parents were actually in the air flying when it happened and we could not get ahold of them.

> I definitely remember the events vividly.
Be careful, the memory is a tricky thing. Do you remember the events of that day vividly, or do you remember the events of that day that the media reenforced through countless replays? What did you eat for breakfast? What did you wear that morning? What time did you wake up? What color was the morning sunrise/sky?
Perhaps you do remember these other details of the morning. I certainly do not. At least not many of them and certainly not vividely. I'm certain that the people closer to the horrors of that day will remember it clearer than those of us that had the comfort of distance.

in all honesty, I remember that day quite well - perhaps the word "vivid" was a poor choice, but I do remember the sequence of events - both of the attacks and my personal involvement in that day (trying to locate my parents). I remember the first newsreport of the first crash and I remember seeing the building on fire. I saw with my own eyes the 2nd crash on live television.
I also remember the first time I heard Osama bin Laden's name attached the attack - I was listening to NPR around 1pm central time.
I also remember my girlfriend at the time trying all day to call her friend who worked in the WTC, but cell phone networks were not working very well that day. That was a big problem with my family as we keep trying to call our parents and the airline to see if they were still alive.

I remember it vividly too. I didn't have any classes that day and I was sleeping in. I was woke up at 9am to "get up! we're under attack!"
I was like WTF why am I being woke up on my day off, I was quite pissed to be woke up for a joke. Then I stumbled out into the room and they showed the crash on the tv and I realized it wasn't a joke. I was very angry and confused. I didn't understand why anyone would be so stupid as to attack us, I mean whoever was behind it would totally have their ass kicked, why would anyone step into the fire like that?
Then the wonderful tv says who it was and I believed it right off the bat just like the rest of the world. I was pissed and wanted them to pay for what they did. Now years later my how my views have changed. If I can thank our govt for anything, I can honestly thank them for waking me up. I don't take anything at face value now and instantly think of every story from numerous angles. Really sad how the whole world said "we love NY" and the like, now they all hate us...just plain sad how they don't support us anymore, and instead of trying to figure out why we just push them further away.
Did bush slip here? I don't know. Did he know beforehand of 9/11? I don't know. Has there been evidence that ties our govt to the hijackers? Yes. There is lots of evidence that points to them having ties and obstructing FBI agents from apprehending the hijackers before 9/11. But what do we do? We just ignore it and hand out tin foil hats, fucking sad. Wonder why the rest of the world is pissed at us? It must be the freedom fries
