For a while there, rap was everywhere. Go around on a friday night and that's all you would hear blastin out of everybody's car. Little kids at the mall were sportin baggy jeans and fake bling. Rock has always been there, but its influence is becoming more prominant.

cRap is just an outlet for pansies to feel good about the fact that they can't facilitate real emotions.
it would be cool if the problem was in decline, but i kinda doubt it is.
and, i hope i've offended some rap fans with my opinion, lol.

Old school rap is da shit though!, NWA, Ice cube, Dr Dre, old snoop is pretty good too.
I am not for the lifestyle, but I am around it all the time. But the drug mafia in general is about the same thing.

Old skool rap is a different story. Old Dre, Tupac, Biggy are badass. But as one of you said, it as all about money now. I would rather listen to screamo any day than the monotonous

I got fifty-millions dollars
So bitch let me holla
I'll swing by in my Impala.

I got so much bling that I freeze fire
I run over hoes and hatas with my car tire

I drink crys and drive benz's
I wear my hat crooked on top of prada lenses

....and all that shit

Main stream rap sucks

I hate all these fake ass rappers, the only mainstream, gangsta rapper that you can kind of respect is 50 cent, because hes crazy like Tupac was, taking shots and living to tell about it, The rule is if you heard about them they probably suck, if you haven't there probably good, just like any genre.

Underground hip hop, and trip hop are good, actually hip hop is best mixed in with elements of Reggie and rock.

So you'd rather listen to rappers that talk about shooting and drama, but haven't seen any part of it.

Because you know that shooting and drama is the #1 topic of most mainstream rap artists,

I respect someone more thats seem some of that, than some punk just spittin off,

Anyways hes not my favorite rapper, I'm just talking mainstream, who do you listen to?

I don't know anyone decent from europe, probably nobody good.

I'm more into triphop, and music I haven't heard.

Im sorry but just because 50 Cent got shot doesn't make him hard, it doesn't give him artistic integrity and it doesn't mean his music is any better than a genuinely talented rapper who's never heard a gunshot. In fact all it indicates is that he's probably an arsehole that someone wanted to kill.

He's a marketable corporate toy and 15 year old white kids are the target audience. Riding on a wave of fame propelled my little other than his image and his association with Eminem. He offers nothing new to rap music, his style is lethargic and monotonous and his lyrics are like something Paris Hilton would write.

Im not trying to flame people's taste in music, if you like it then you listen to it, it's just frustrating when real hip-hop gets tarred with the same brush as this diluted goat piss.

Tupac, Nas, Mobb Deep, Eminem, Biggie, NWA, Outkast, Murs, Eminem, South Central Cartel, Zion I, Sage Francis, Atmosphere, Abdominal, Snoop, Dre... A lot of these artists have gone a bit pap lately but their early stuff is what it's all about. None of this "go shorty, it's your birthday" bollocks.

Fuck off back to yer club you arse candle

I feel that it's declining in quality, not popularity. I'm mostly an alternative/rock person but there's a lot of rap that I can really vibe with. It seems like all it is now is, "Smoke this, drive this, wear this, drink this..." You know what I mean? Not all rap is crap but lately its the same shit over and over.

obviously the person that started this thread doesn't know the first thing about rap or hip-hop so how could you start to respect their opinion or hold it valid??

no man, they're not all fake. the only thing they know is sellin coke. thats what they know, so thats what they talk about a lot. but that's not all they say, you're obviously just not listenin. i think some of the atlanta rappers are the best ones in the business right now and nobody ever gives them credit.

but yeah, there are a ton of shitty other people puttin out records that don't have any business in a studio. they just get high and say whatever the fuck they feel like, toss some money around, and it sells. just give somethin quality a try

LOL

I think the best MC's right now are a bunch of Brits... this year I've been listening to a lot of grime, and London MC's like Dizzee Rascal, Kano, Wiley, the Virus Syndicate, etc. are doing it better and more creatively than anyone stateside.

yeah, just because the general forms of music are all good, doesn't mean that all their specific forms are good.

for instance:

good rappers= eminem, tupac, biggie

crap rappers=  50 cent, ummm, lets see, who else?  ah well, most rappers are pretty cool.

I just hate that rap turned from being about the proletarian struggle to being about 'what do I do with all this cash, I'm better than you are cuz I wear designer clothes, blah, blah, blah'

the second you give some black people money, they start acting just like the type of white people they supposedly despise.

blatant hypocrisy

thats why I say:  "live ghetto, stay ghetto, be ghetto, the mentality of the ghetto.  Stay with my peoples, make money with my peoples.  Why you fightin me, mang?  Fight them.  You and me togteher, we'll slay em."

The ghetto is where all the real people's are at.

but I do like rock and techno and classical

its all good

lately I've been listening to a lot of GWAR

out of respect for my father

Well actually you say him being shot 9 times doesn't give him artist integrity, It just gives him some integrity as a gangsta rapper in which I can

respect some of his lyrics, if you listen to some of his old stuff you

can tell hes been in thick of things, I admit his philosophy is

simple but it has more meaning and speaks more than alto of these

rap rats that you listed, His blowing up had nothing to do with his association of eminiam

I mean come on man you look at eminiam trying to act hard on the Mic, and you just get this feeling, that if this wasn't a movie or a setup he'd get his ass whooped,

Anyways like I said, he's not my favorite rapper, because he does kind of sell out, but its nearly impossible not to when your that big

I think hes trying to satisfy a wider crowd these days because he ain't no piss ant like The game,

his hookup with mob deep I thought was keep it real

listed, PNW, rocks in music , and in shrooms, and the seahawks, fuck

those faggot steelers, had to have all the help in the world to win the SB.

If no one has mentioned it before, Atmosphere is pretty awesome as well. Only rap i usually like (and i am primarily a rock lover). The guy writes some great poetry and can laugh at himself, which is essential in good rap music. If all the shit you rap about is serious then you are just retarded.

its true, decline was started in 99.

im a little sad to see everything headed towards techno, but then again i dont have to listen to anything i dont want to. everyone needs a healthy mix of frank zappa, wu-tang and Johnny Cash.

Anybody that says "rap is lame, rap sucks, etc, etc..." does not understand the genre enough or has not explored it atall.

To feel hip hop you have to transcend the boundaries emposed on it. Everybody sees hip hop as either music for black people, or music for loser wiggers that are trying to be black.

What people have to understand is that hip hop is an aquired taste. If you can blaze a spliff and put on a styles P record and bop your head to it... then you do so because you feel the value of the music.

Theres alot of shit just like Pac and Notorious B.I.G. and NWA that is STILL around today. Its just that you dont see it in the maisntream. You have to look for it.

There is ALOT of good rap... ofcourse there is some asshair rap that has been coming out hard as of late but you gotta just try to ignore it, listen to the good rap, and enjoy it.

Fuck mainstream music!! Mainstream rock is absolutely the worst as far as music goes! Now its just a bunch of high-pitched faggots screaming on microphones saying absolutely nothing and you cant even dance to the shit. Atleast the wack mainstream hip hop you can go to a club and fuckin whine all night long to that shit.
